I have rolled out my A1200 from retirement, done a basic Workbench 3.0
install on the hard drive but now wish to push on with networking it through
a router to the internet. Just prior to the machine being retired I heard
of some people using PCMCIA network cards to add ethernet networking to
their machines. I am basically looking for a clean and easy source of
knowledge on this.
Additionally, I have located my AmiTCP/IP disk set but can't find my key
code number, any ideas where I might be able to recover that from?
Thanks All,
/Marcus\
When I was looking for a PCMCIA NIC for my A1200, I bookmarked
http://www.g-mb.de/pcmcia_e.html, which may help.
FWIW, as far as I could tell, any NE2000-compatible, non-cardbus (i.e. 16
bit) card stands a good chance of working, I ended up buying two cards from
ebay for a couple of pounds each, a Netgear FA411 and a Kingmax (p/n
EN10-T2T 9814). Under Linux, the Kingmax works great, I couldn't get the
Netgear to work though. I haven't gotten around to setting up networking
under AmigaOS yet, but I believe if it works in Linux, it is pretty much
guaranteed to work in AmigaOS.

I have just stopped using a pcmcia network card because it made a slight
difference to how I used my mediator. But I had great service from it and
would recommend it, certainly from my own experiences.
I actually used 3C589.lha (Aminet) which allows use of the very common
3Com cards. It is only about a year old, and the author Neil Cafferkey was
very helpful indeed. Like the other option you want to put CardReset and
the CardPatch(?) in your startup to fix the pcmcia problems.
Anyway, worked great here.
Oh, and your registration number for AmiTCP, its in your desk drawer
underneath the codewheel for Monkey Island. ;)
All the best,
Angus Manwaring. (for e-mail remove ANTISPEM)
