O.K. Decent choice, I've got one, too. Too bad your friend's
isn't working.

Strange.

With all that you've said here, I first started to think that your
friend damaged his PCMCIA port when he plugged in the Surf Squirrel.
Those pins in there are very delicate. However, when you said you
connected yours to his computer and it worked, that changed my first
opinion.
>Is it the Surf Squirrel or is it maybe the software?
Probably the Surf Squirrel. But, first, make absolutely sure that
you installed the driver disks properly with the included install
program.
I have had my Surf Squirrel for quite some time now, and both the
serial port and the SCSI bus have worked flawlessly from day one.

someone I know bought a Surf Squirrel from Hisoft, but he has some
problems installing the Surf Squirrel. So he returned this Surf
Squirrel. He got a new one, but he stil couldn't get it to work.
So he asked me to install it.
I tried it, but I couldn't get it to work either.
Then I tried connecting his Sony cd-rom to my SCSI Squirrel interface.
His cd-rom worked (after changing the cd-rom preferences to SONY).
Then I tried to connect my SCSI Squirrel interface and his cd-rom to
his amiga 1200. The cd-rom worked after installing the software for
the SCSI Squirrel.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?
Is it the Surf Squirrel or is it maybe the software?

Are you using the Classic or Surf Squirrel on your machine? What happens if

At a guess you have both the Classic and Surf Squirrel s/w installed on one
machine. FYI - this can cause big probs.
: Is it the Surf Squirrel or is it maybe the software?
If the Surf Squirrel doesn't work on your machine - the unit is probably
faulty. BTW, you can test to see if the Squirrel is fully connected by
running PrepCard(SYS:tools/).

I'm using the classic squirrel on my machine. If I plug the
Surf Squirrel in my computer without installing iut, my amiga
won't boot.

I've used Delete_Classic_Squirrel before installing, so I think this
couldn't be the problem.

I've run PrepCard, it doesn't recognise the Surf Squirrel:
Device: unknown
Format: unknown
Geometry: N/A
Battery: Failed
Information: N/A
I think the Surf Squirrel is faulty. Or isn't it?

Probably - as you still have the Classic Squirrel s/w installed.

This should be ok.

This is the correct response from Prepcard for the Surf Squirrel.
: I think the Surf Squirrel is faulty. Or isn't it?
The Surf Squirrel maybe faulty.
Somethings to check:
PCMCIA pins - are any of these pins bent?
SCSIMounter - What does this return?

I can't try it out now, but when I had installed the Surf Squirrel and
tried to acces the cd-rom I got a requester with "No disk in CD0:"
(There was a cd in the cd-rom).
So the cd0: is mounted, but I can't acces it. The PCMCIA pins probably
aren't bend, because my SCSI Squirrel can acces the cd-rom w/o any
problems.

This may mean that your CD-ROM is faulty. Run SCSIMounter to check this - if
SCSIMounter returns 'not ready' when you have a disk in the drive then the
CDROM is faulty.

FWIW, the Surf Squirrel uses more pins than the Classic Squirrel.
BTW, check to make sure that you have the SCSI ID of the drive set
correctly. The ID number of the drive should be listed in your
cd.device.config file.
