Iam using Amiga-1200 with vga monitor iam using a scandoubler MV1200 I was
wondering can i get better resolution than 724x220
it would be better if i can get 800x600!

Is it possible! Iam using NTSC Driver!

Thanx in Advance!

Try using the interlace resolution for NTSC. That should give you about
a 680x400 screenmode. Or better yet, try using some of the other monitor
drivers found in Workbench! NTSC should only be used as a last resort
for speeding up games and video production. Super72, which might not
work with your VGA monitor, can easily do 800x600. Although, you must be
aware that the bigger and deeper your screenmode, the more chip RAM you
sacrifice.

Actually, just about all non-games support Super72 800*600. In fact, before

Well, i guess your software is newer than mine :). I have a lot of legacy software, and
anything written for 1.3 or earlier came before installable screen drivers. The only version
of DPaint to support alternate screenmodes is five. All earlier versions can only handle the
standard PAL/NTSC modes. DblNTSC and DblPAL should work with more software though, since
requests by programs for regular modes will automatically be scandoubled by the hardware
when the workbench is running in the double modes. The double modes require the Multisync
driver (i think its that one).

Well, AGA was not available until 3.0. So I can see why you're having
problems. But your original post was comparing Amiga graphics cards
to native Amiga graphics. Not AGA to ECS/OCS. Since I've owned AGA Amiga 4K
for 6 years, I don't remember my old A2K and OCS/ESC very well. Except
that Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, Bard's Tale, and Marble Madness were
some kick ass games :)

It's been a while, but I think DPaintIV supported AGA modes. But I bought
Brilliance 2.0 instead. I'm not sure how similar these two programs
are, but Brilliance supported all AGA modes. It doesn't support any
graphics cards modes though.

Perhaps if you listed the software you were tyring to run, someone could
help getting it to open on an AGA screen. Or, you may want to try to hunt
down some newer software (7 years and younger) that specifically supports
OS3.x and AGA........joe

You can find it on Aminet. The filename is Super83b.lha and is located
under hard/drivr. Or you can just do a search. I just did a check
on Aminet and found this driver is now 5 1/2 years old! My A4K is only
6 years old and I used Super83 daily until I switched to graphics cards
(CV3D and PIV).

It's a trade off of course. You can't get the higher refresh without
sacrificing overscan. But since 800*600 isn't a video mode, I didn't
miss overscan at all! Best wishes.........joe

I dont really have problems running anything since i have a 1084s. Personally, i would like to see
the NG amiga come with graphics hardware so impressive that graphics cards are rendered obsolete.
Generic graphics cards suck, since most are based on PC graphics cards (or at least their main
chip). I bought my Amiga so i didnt have to deal with graphics cards. Besides, would it make sense
to spend $300 on a good card for a 4000/VT that i got for $25? It wasnt until i upgraded my PC to
a pentium 166 equivalent that my old 500 was less fun to play with. I also havent seen a lot of
really good software since the commodore bankruptcy. You are right, DPaint 4 can support AGA, but
you need a separate executeable. The main executeable only supports the standard NTSC/PAL modes. I
still like DPIV, since i spent some time with DPII for PC, which really sucked. Lightwave is
probably going to be my most used app, so i'm fine with that. The only reason i really got
interested in VGA was when i picked up a 21" Multisync XL (not 15khz compatible) for $3! My 4000
works fine with it in DBL modes, especially since i have the old syncstrainer adapter. Personally,
i think that the amiga needs a custom designed CPU. That CPU should have features like a virtual
68k mode (sort of like V86 on intel junk) which is really fast and efficient, with a native RISC
mode for new apps. I also would love to see a real Amiga laptop, with nice features like AGA, and
probably an active matrix display. If nobody else builds one i like, i will eventually get around
to hacking my own together. I have a working CD32 board that would make a nice portable. I was
interested in the PAWS workstation, but it is insanely bulky and far too expensive. If i can
devote the time, i will eventually produce a homebrewn motherboard for the portable, which would
include things like SCSI, a fast 060, and the workbench completely in ROM.

It is one of the standard drivers (I've forgotten which one), no need
for tweaking.

Would you care to elaborate on that? I've seen no such problem.
