What are my options for Chip RAM expansion?
Can I buy a 2Mb Agnus and 1Mb of RAM, or is my only option the DKB
MegaChip?
Has anyone had any experience with the DKB Megachip? Is the size of
the board going to interfere with a card or structural support?

The best option is a MegaChip 2000. There is a hardware kit available but
it is not that much cheaper than a MegaChip. Besides DKB is still in
business. I have had one in my A2000 for years with absolutely no problems.

The only logical one is the DKB board, it includes the Agnus chip and it
works reliably.

Yup, used a few of them in various machines, no problems. The current
version is very small, about 1-3/4" x 2-1/8" (4.5 x 5.5 cm). If you have
that much space around the socket it should fit, or check with DKB.

I've got a few CSA midget racers, and there is a 'slight' problem
with mechanical clearance with the DKB ram expansion. You see, the
DKB unit installs under the CPU card (assuming the derringer, like
the racer is actually an A500 accel, which plugs into the 68000 socket),
and you have to piggy-back a few 68-pin sockets to 'jack' the accel
card up a little. Once youve done this, the accel card clashes with
the hard disk frame. I had to do 'sugery' on my system.
If on the other hand, the derringer plugs into the accelerator CPU
slot, then fit/conflict wont be a problem at all.
The DKB seems to work fine, just make sure the socket ip will plug
into is very clean, and very tight (no slop).

If he's interested, he can read my review of the MegACHIP
2000 board in Amiga Report magazine. It can be found in
issue number 306.

I have not used a CSA Derringer, so I cannot comment on it, or anything
in association with it...
However, I do own a couple of A2000's, and with a DKB megachip, or
similar knock-off, it is fairly simple to install, and brings your 2000
up to 3000/4000 level on chip mem. Buying a 2 meg Agnus would be of
little use to you without the know how to make a chipram daughterboard
for the additional meg. With the megachip, it is a basic install & play
type of thing.
You can also go another route, and purchase a gfx card which will use
less gfx memory on higher res screens.
Or you can do what I did... and get both a gfx card and a megachip...
which work terrific together. (I have a retina Z2 and a EGS-110 card
working fine with the DKB.)
Hope that helps. If you have anymore questions, just email me.

Amiga2000/03025mhz/16fast/2chip/Retina/VLab/Aussie in Japan.
I have a 25 mhz CSA Derringer with the DKB Mega chip, it fits but
ONLY if you use 2 72 pin extenders which means you are going to have
to be VERY CAREFUL when you finally install everything.
It wouldn't hurt to also place some insulating paper between the DKB
and the Derringer and between the top of the Derringer and the disk
drive housing.
There is almost no space after you instal the CSA unit WITH the
extenders but everything does fit. Also be careful when you take the
1mb Agnus out of the mother board, I mangled mine slightly and
occasionally get Yellow or Green screens.
Don't be put off by the above, the DKB works very well, I can't
imagine going back to 1mb.
Ah, I forgot.. the Derringer allows you to reinstal the 68000 on top
of it, personally I took it off as all but one prog runs on 030.
Good luck, go slowly, take your time with good lights and a good chip
puller.
Michael Wilkins, Kyoto, Japan.
The 72 pin extenders you are talking about; I assume they are for the
68000 socket and elevate the Derringer to allow clearence for the
MegaChip. Were they hard to find?
If I decide to get 2Mb Chip RAM, I will go with the MegaChip. Since I
also need a flicker fixer, a video card seems to be my next option.
This will free up chip RAM by placing screens in the video card's RAM,
and fix flicker with it's VGA-like outputs. I have a Commodore 1950
so I can still see the boot menu and play NTSC/PAL games via
passthrough and utilize all the modes for most Amiga video cards.
Is a certain motherboard revision needed? Or, is 4.x ok?

Plug 'n' play: Only Amiga...
Mine works great on my A2000 Rev. 4.4.
Its smaller and has less power consumption than the DKB Megachip and best
of all its significantly cheaper at UKP110.60 ~ US$169

I think every model except the very old German A-model a2000 will be ok.

I am afraid you won't find anything for it. :( The Phoenix (?) Rejuvenator
board is the only commerical product that is close to what you are asking
for. It is basically a new motherboard for the A1000.
The ECS Agnus and the Agnus on the A1000 are so different that you pretty
much have to do a *lot* of hacking to the motherboard that it is not
feasible. As far as I know there might be only a handful of people that hack
one in.

Has anyone heard of any conflicts the 2Mb Agnus (ala Megachip) has with
GVP 040 accelerators? I seem to recall a rumor that indicated such, but
have no hard data. Anyone?
