I know that this subject has been discussed before, but unfortunately I missed
the thread...

Can a standard A 4000 use EDO RAM (wich is getting cheaper than standard
SIMMS)?
Will EDO ram work with a CyberStorm (040)?

An answer in mail will do.

From the IFAQ:

Q. Can EDO SIMMs be used in an Amiga?
A. In some of them, yes. It depends on the particular model. All DKB RAM
boards are reported to work (by DKB); the A4000 motherboard is probably
okay; and the Blizzard 1230 and 1260 are okay (try before you buy for any
RAM expansions). Unless the RAM expansion has specific provisions to take
advantage of EDO SIMMs, they won't run any faster than normal SIMMs.

Dunno. Probably.

I have a 2.5" HD that has both slow spin-up and power-saving features.
So you can't simply turnon the computer and then hit reset once
it has gotten upto speed because the reset will tell it to power
back down for an instant. I did manage to get it working by
using DEGRADER (I simply runit with no options set and the
delays it causes while flashing the screen various colors after
a reset are fairly often enough to let the HD get back up to
speed). Still, this isn't the greatest solution for a number of
reasons. I noticed the A1200 HW FAQ in here mention clipping
pin 1 on the HD cable for HD's that "don't properly interpret
the reset signal". Would clipping pin #1 solve my problem (or would it
deprive the HD of a power on signal and allow it to never
start-up)?

There should be a jumper somewhere on the drive to disable this. Who is
the manufacturer? You could probably contact them, or look on their web
page, to find out how.

The only jumpers I could see were the two directly on the cable conector
pins (on the far end). I tried all combos and they either did nothing
that I coduld tell or made the hard drive never, ever power-up.
I don't think that jumpers is the solution to this problem.
Perhaps the pin 1 clipping is.

Yes, I used to have a similar problem with the IDE drive in my A4000 and after clipping pin one (actually I cut one wire on the cable) it worked like a charm. Still needed to reset after a cold-boot though, but once the drive was spinning, no more problems ;).

Well, I just tried it and it worked perfectly. Only needs one extra
re-boot at the very beginning. This allows me to get rid of that
degrader hack method I had to use to get it to work before and should
cut down on wear and tear on the drive motor.

Can you boot the computer holding both mouse buttons, and at the early
start up screen select boot?
