Hi,

I have an Amiga 1000 and I am thinking about connecting a SCSI hard
drive to my system. I saw an advertisement for an A1000 Hard Drive
Interface for $189.99 in a TENEX Computer Express catalog and was wondering
what I need exactly to connect a drive to my system. Of course, I am
thinking about connecting the drive to the side expansion bus. Also, I'll
be getting (if I go through with my plans) a hard drive with a case.
Has anybody done business with TENEX? What are other options to getting
this Hard Drive Interface? How does TENEX compare pricewise to other
distributors (they look a little steep to me)? If I buy this A1000 Hard
Drive Interface, will I be able to run SCSI II?

Or is there a better way to do this (such as replacing the internal 3.5"
drive with a hard drive + other interfaces, etc)?

Thanks in advance,

Tony Simon

The Tenex SCSI interface is similar to the C.LTD 1000 SCSI interface that I
have. It WILL NOT do SCSI ][.. and yes the price is a bit steep. The HD will
need an external enclosure.

A suggestion though, if you do not mind how it looks buy a DataFlyer
for the 500. It will work (if connected 'backwards)(front of the dataflyer
facing the rear of the 1000) and it will hold the HD as well. I use a similar
setup (a RocTech HD controller.. I suggest a Dataflyer card because its cheap)

I have had an A1000 for a while before I sold it and I had used the DataFlyer
1000 box for my system. Basically, its a box with a Zorro 1 to Zorro2 connecto
and room for a small 3.5" HH HD and the cards for it. I had a DataFlyer
SCSI card plugged, which can also take on the piggybacked ram card, and
quantum lps 105. Works great.

If anybody out there with 1000s are interested in the box (I sold the scsi
card), I am interested in selling it as I will be gettting a 2 slot box
soon for my A1000.

It beats having to get one of those A500 scsi controller and turning it
backwards.

I say go for the Dataflier. Their customer support is very good, and their
hardware is reliable, yet sometimes not fully compatibly with _everything_...
well, I just had trouble getting a Toshiba 3201 and AsimCDFS working together
on my Amiga 1000, with a Dataflier + 2MB Ram.

Some other good things about the Dataflier:
o Available with an A1000 chassis (look into this)
o Ram Board (also available) piggbacks the HD Controller
- future upgrades (you may be looking into this...)
- uses either 256k simms (are these still available?!?!) or 1mb simms
+ the 1mb simms can be 1x9, 1x8, or those 3-chip simms
(I had a nasty assortment of these on the board, and it worked
flawlwssly! :)
o Both the HD Controller and the Ram Board are actually Zorro II cards, so
they are usable in an A2000, 3000, etc...
o The HD controller available as SCSI, IDE or both

Go for the DF1000!!

Above are my own opinions. NT/NAS may or may not agree with it. So there! :-p
