Can someone tell me which PCMCIA CDROM from PC world are compatible with
Amiga 1200?
Is there a driver issue, or these devices are PnP whwn inserted to PCMCIA
slot?
Thank You in advance!

On the back of the A1200 next to the power connector, there's a small
(3 or 4 cm) opening in the the case.
Noone knows what it was meant for, probably it was for some expansion
that never came out...
Normally it's covered with a small plastic plate that clicks into
place.
You can remove it without damaging the case by pushing it out from the
inside.
Maybe you can squeeze the IDE cable through there?
Or better maybe you could extend the IDE port (with a short IDE adaptor
cable) to that opening so you can connect/disconnect the CDrom without
having to open the case.

You're rather limited in ways of hooking a CDdrive to a 1200. The
little opening next to the mouse port is normally for the SCSI kit that
comes with the Blizzard series accelerator. I've seen a 1200 specific
USB kit on www.amigakit.com that uses the clockport and the connector
fits in that little slot. That way, you can get the common USB CDdrives
available.
The other way of putting a CD on the Amiga was through the SquirrelSCSI
or Surf Squirrel which hooks up to the PCMCIA.
Other than that, you will have to modify the case a little. If you're
handy with a dremmel type tool, you can install a laptop CDdrive IN the
1200. There are devices that allow more than one device to be connected
to the IDE port. If you have an external IDE CDdrive, you can run a
cable from inside, although it'll look a little ugly. It will require
cutting a slot on the side.
I've never seen any CDdrives that connect to a PCMCIA. Just ram,
ethernet, and networking cards.

There is overdrive cd-rom made for Amiga 600/1200.

I realy dont want to ruin Amiga case.

There you go. Just try the ones I mentioned.
Well, they don't manufacture them. 8) But yes, I've seen some listed by
some of the retailers and they show up on Ebay or Amibench from time to
time (thats where I got mine). Go to the company links at the bottom of
www.amiga.org and its got up to date links to all the retailers. And
you should be able to get one.
Although, if you have an accelerator with some ram, do think about
installing the USB on that 1200. Its much more expandible.
SCSI is "oooooollllldddd" technology. At least its cheap. 8)
