These predictions are based on a terrain-sensitive propagation model resembling but not identical to the propagation model used when calculating service and interference contours for licensed broadcast television stations. With the launch of next-generation 5G wireless networks becoming a reality, more and more cell towers are being built every day. No matter which smartphone you prefer or which carrier you subscribe to, location matters when it comes to cell reception.
WeatherNation TV is working with DirecTV to improve its service, and on Monday it enabled a "local button" on subscribers' remote controls that displays a quick snapshot of the local weather on the TV. A graphic showing weather specific to the ZIP code area will pop up every 10 minutes, starting within a week. And in March, WeatherNation TV will launch a six-screens-in-one coverage platform for weather events that are potentially life-threatening. Viewers will be able to zoom in on the main WeatherNation feed, local broadcast stations in affected areas, live remotes from meteorologists in the field, radar maps, advisories or live coverage from national networks like CNN and Fox.

Warner: I prepared a couple of maps (Figs. 1 and 2) showing a translator application in a problem setting. Contours show that the translator 40 dBu interference contour is well clear of the full-power station 60 dBu service contour, but a Longley-Rice propagation showing reveals that there is 60 dBu signal around and beyond the translator site. The second map shows signal ratios. The area where interference is predicted, that is, the signals are within 20 dB of each other, is very large. The area where the translator would have a predicted clean signal is small and spotty. The allocation meets FCC requirements, but would cause significant interference to the full-power station, while having a very small clean service area. (Some car radios can survive ratios lower than 20 dB, but that does not get around the full-power station service area near the translator site. The full-power station has reported listening in the ZIP code where the translator is proposed.)
