I wouldn't recommend the 10/100 adaptor, as it is likely to be a cardbus
device, which won't work on the A1200. However I have a Toshiba branded
Xircom 10-baseT (2) card (pce2-10bc) for which I intend to write
drivers, if I can find time.

Have you thought about swapping it for a different type of ethernet
card? I'm sure a laptop-owning PC user would like to have 100base
ethernet :)

That's a shame... I have a Xircom 10/100 (CE3B-100BTX) knocking around and
I want to network my A1200 :-( Guess I'll have to look at that parallel port!

If I remember rightly, Eyetech are selling an A1200 PCMCIA card for 79.95....
not hideous, but definitely more than the 39.95 that Simply can sell me one for
my PC :-(
I also want Linux support, so I guess I'm stuck ...

The driver I found cnet.device (cnetdevice.lha) contained the following text
file - so I guess if we can find any of these cards (cant say I have heard
of many of these brands). It also lists which cards it cannot support :-

Cards that work : - CNet CN40BC, Accton EN2216, Surecom EP-427

The following cards have been reported to work: - Micronet SP122, Socket
Communications model AAA-1001, SureCom EP-527, Grey Systems Ethernet Gold
Card, KingMax Technology NE2000 Compatible PCMCIA Card Version 4.1, LanPro
NE2000 compatible, Dynalink L10C Combo Ethernet Adapter. Linksys EC2T Combo
PCMCIA Ethernet card, TRENDnet TE210CT, ARGOSY EN210BT, PINE Ethernet
PCMCIA, LinkMate/Apollo RE450CT, FIBERLINE-4680, TARGET 100M fast Ethernet
PC CARD, Genius ME3000IISE, Tamarack Microelectronics Ethernet PCMCIA card

The following cards do NOT work:- 3com cards, Megahertz cards, Xircom cards,
Accton EN2212, ActionTec FastNet PE-200, DLink DE-650, DE-660, Kingmax
EN10-T2 R01

Simply Computers dont seem to stock these brands - so it looks like Eyetech
are the ones to buy from although I agree 80 quid is a bit steep considering
basic PCMCIA cards can be had for 40.

This would be a great solution for me as I have an ISDN network. So far I
havent been too lucky with a modem although i havent really had much time to
invest in getting it going!!

I'll check some other retailers, just on the off chance. I'll also ask around
at my college.

I have ISDN too :-)
I have my PC (AMD K6-III) running Linux set up as the mini-intranet server
linked to a ethernet hub and the ISDN modem. We also have a laptop (Pentium) in
the flat too, though that's got a Xircom too (CE3 10/100). Ultimately I want to
upgrade my Amiga to '060 or PPC power with gfx card (in the dim and distant
future!)

If you have any luck with one, the let me know how you get on. If you have any
luck with two, let me know where from and how much!

Later,

Duncan

* This driver originally was made by Werner Koch. Since the driver was left
* unmaintained for some time, there have been some improvements and changes
* since. These include supporting some of the "Realport" cards and develop-
* ing enhancements to support the new ones.
* It is made for CE2, CEM28, CEM33, CE33 and
* CEM56 cards. The CEM56 cards work both with their modem and ethernet

* with some bugs which are being corrected as they are detected.

Have a look at other retailers, I bought mine for approx 50 UKP at
nationalamiga, and I think another one is selling for less..

Both CNet and Accton are pretty cheap cards, as far as I know.
