I've been trying to get hold of an official Kickstart 3.1 chip for the
Amiga A600 and cant seem to get them anywhere. Power Computing dont
sell them, Eyetech dont sell them, they are never up for sale on ebay.
Anyone idea what make / model EPROM you'd need to make your own? I
think it's a single 16-bit 512kbyte (4Mbit) EPROM? No idea which make.
(27c040?)
I own the original KS3.1 (40.68) for my A4k... I wont use both at the
same time (promise) ;)
Anyone?

A500/A600/A2000 v3.1 ROM AMIGA CLASSIC $79
I'm pretty sure the A500/A2000 ROM available new today also works with A600
as support for IDE and PCMCIA have been incorporated into one ROM.
Yes its 16-bit 512kbyte.
I made my own from two old pc bios flash chips :-)
(2x 8bit 256kbyte flash)
Split kickstart file in half, and flashed them by hotflashing in normal
pc :-) (Boot computer into dos, change flash chip, flash half of the kickstart,
change flash chip, flash other half, change original bios flash chip back.)
I made "kickstart board" from 40 pins, pcb, two ic sockets and lots of wire.. :-)
Works perfectly.
Of course single 16-bit 512kbyte flashrom/eprom would do. Pin order might be
different.. I just had few flash bios chips from broken pc motherboards..

For wich Amiga was it ? And would any pc BIOS chip do ? I have two from BX
(pentiumII)
boards (27C1024 and 39SF020A)

Can you be more specific about spliting KS file ?

Type Error, I meant AM27C400 and it IS an AM27C400 you need for the
A500/A600/A2000, (And you need 2x for A1200/A3000/A4000) I've managed
to source some of them (albeit minimum order is 10 of them at 3 Euro's
each).

Two reasons
1) It's in the US, after you add postage and import duty it will be
much more.
2) My A600 only cost £10 UKP ($5 USD) with a 60Meg HD!
Having bought Kickstart v3.1 three times (A4000, A3000, Amiga Forever)
I'm not going to feel too bad if I make my own, for personal use.
Thanks everyone.

27C1024 is 16bit 128 kbytes. You would need four of these :-)
And afaik 39SF020A is 8bit 256kbytes. Two of these could do.
Amiga ROM is 512kbytes 16bit (4MBit). You can achieve that by
combining data lines from two 8bit flash chips. Single 16bit 512kbyte
would still be optimal (you would save about 5m of wire.. ;D)
As far as I know, 512kbyte 16bit flash roms are quite cheap. I just happened
to have those bios chips..
As I said, i used two 8bit 256kbyte flash roms...
I wired the addresslines from rom socket to both flash roms identically,
then wired 8 first datalines from rom socket to first flash rom,
and 8 other datalines to second flash rom.
So when amiga gives address, first flashrom returns 8 first bits of data and
other flash returns 8 last bits -> 16bits of data.

Every odd byte to first flashrom, and even byte to second:
0123456789abcdef -> 01234567 to first flash rom, 89abcdef to second.
I have c-source for rom splitter. I found it from aminet, try searching
for a500 ide/rom/ram self-made expansion card plans.
My apologies for not remembering author of that expansion card and source
for splitter :I

I think the rom version is 40.063 instead of 40.63?
EPROM 27C400 should fit, but the 27C160 is easier to find.
It has 42 pins.
I seem to remember that my A2000 3.1-ROM was labeled "A500/2000/600",
but the older Kick 2.0x was different on the A600 just as you said.
The A4000 kickfile is not very useful for the A600 however.. and the
EPROM needed os more expensive than a original one.
(No, it's not the 27C040, it's a very odd one, 27C400 if I remember correctly,
it have the same size but is different.)
