There actually are two different A500 PSU's, one heavy and weak, the other
is light and more powerful.
The A1200 PSU's in Sweden was A600 PSU's wich was very weak.. don't know
about the PSU's shipped in other countries..
My first A1200 PSU died after nearly a year, and then C= had died already so
it took my dealer a long time to get me a replacement (fortunatly I had my
old A500 PSU) , and when I finally got it i got a black PSU that was
very lightweight.. the dealer said that they had got a stock of CD32 PSU's
and that they where better than the white heavy original PSU.. HOWEVER, when
I got myself a CD32 later I saw that it had a differnet PSU, and not even the
same connector as the normal Amigas.. so I have no clue what kind of PSU
I have now.. but at least it's C= original.
(The partnumber on it is PSM-601-2 if someone can get something from that)

I thought the heavy one was the more powerful of the two.
Anyone able to clarify this? (as in provide wattage for both kinds, or
at least the lightweight switch mode power supplies, I used to have one
of these, but no more).
Watts = Voltage x Amps (P = U x I)
The heavy A500 PSU (P/N 312 503-03):
+5v: 2.5 A (12.5 W)
+12v: 1.0 A (12 W)
-12v: 0.1 A (1.2 W)
Total: 25.7 W
A600 PSU: (P/N 365 212-02)
+5v: 3 A (15 W)
+12v: 0.5 A (6 W)
-12v: 0.1 A (1.2 W)
Total: 22.2 W
CD32 PSU: (P/N 313 375-03) (Lightweight SMPS)
+5v: 2.2 A (11 W)
+12v: 0.5 A (6 W)
Total: 17 W
Thats those three, anyone have a PSU labelled as an A1200 one or the
Lightweight A500 one, is welcome to provide the values of those.

Michael
Could you perhaps have a look underneath it and post the amperage values
and wattage? And part number?
-Paul
5V=4.3A
12V=1A
-12V=0.1A
The part number is 312503-01, and right under that it says "PSM-500".
I just opened it up, and yes it is a switching supply.
Michael
Ok, then the lightweight A500 PSU's are the most powerful ones, contrary
to what most people seem to believe.
+5v: 4.3 A = 21.5 W
+12v: 1 A = 12 W
-12v: 0.1 A = 1.2 W
Total: 34.7 W
Thanks Michael!
And if anyone should happen to have a C= psu with a different rating
than the ones already mentioned, please post their spec's.
-Paul
The difference in these two PSUs is the fact that the A500's PSU is a
higher wattage than the A1200's. The A1200's PSU is meant to run the
A1200, HD, and maybe an accellerator. The A500 PSU can handle that and
an external floppy or two.
Now, as to where you got it, I DID hear somewhere that Amiga sent out
some A500 PSUs with there A1200s to get them out of there back stock
(and several of the used Amiga dealers do the same - if they have them
extra).

I have just checked my PSU and it says:

DSP-A500
5V=4.5A
12V=1A
-12V=0.1A
