Amiga 2000 keyboard error: a common, fixable hardware problem?

Greetings all.
I realize this is now an Amiga 1200/4000 group;
still, there may be an older guru lurking in here.

My Amiga 2000 keyboard does not seem to work properly! It started out
sporadically, and now sends what must be an endless series of 0s, which
will generate backquotes (`````````````````````````...) in a CLI window.
(I have pried open the actual backquote key, and it's not stuck down!)

The fascinating thing is that Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga will successfully make
its way through and generate a soft boot! (Isn't that strange?)

If others have run across and solved this problem, and it's easy to
fix, I am quite willing to open up the keyboard (it's no longer under
warranty) and replace the bad capacitor or do whatever to solve the
problem. Has anyone ever seen a problem like this?

Other Alternatives:

* Who makes and sells, or where can I obtain the plans for, a little
microprocessor board into which can I can plug an easy-to-buy PC
keyboard, and which will generate proper keycodes for the Amiga 2000?

* Is there anyone who would like to sell me an Amiga 2000 keyboard?

By the way, I am typing this message on an A3000 keyboard I borrowed.
I am glad and somewhat surprised that it works, even though they are
both plugged in via the same 5-pin DIN connection, and you wouldn't
expect Commodore to do something stupid like make identical yet
incompatible keyboards for machines they sell... The only thing I
can't seem to make work is the TAB key. (Even the arrow keys work!)

Many thanks for the help of wizards in this matter...

It had better NOT be.

Mine does the "``````" when I plug it back in (while my 2000 is running).
Maybe there is a fubar wire in your cable, give it a thrash with a
continuity checker.

I had the same problem with my A500, the keyboard processor
was broken...

OK, here is what you can do.........
1. Fix the keyboard connector, ie, wickle it a little.
2. Sometime, this might work. press the backspace to delete the (`) stuff.
It will works.
3. Buy a new keyboard from mail order, ie Software Hut. They have it for
about $45.00 or something.
