Holy Flaming Cow! Don't you people get it?

THE A1400 IS VAPOR. VAPOR. VAPOR!

Commdore has announced NOTHING. ZIP. ZERO. And with recent cuts I
doubt they will anytime soon.

You guys are pathetic, you're like a bunch of puppy dogs whimpering
for more doggie biskets.

ALSO, the A1400 rumorspecs are nothing more than an A1200 with some more
drive bays and a detached keyboard. It's about as credible as the
"A5000" specs touting 1 060 and 2 040s.

It's all VAPOR. BULLSHIT. BOGUS.

Ian.

P.S. Get a clue.

C= has announce that it will introduce a "mystery" Amiga at the WOC at
Sydney in a few days time. No doubt, it'll turn out to be the official
release of the AGA CDTV console. AT least, I hope so :-).

You guys? Exactly how many people do you think he is? Does that "s" in

well they cut in the PEECEE section , not in the amiga section,
in fact, they are investing the money they save from the PEECEE
section in the amiga....

so your company is getting less money in the future from C=.

Hmm, sometimes rumours come true ...

After reading some postings in German newsgroups (like de.comp.sys.amiga.
misc), here's good news:

The CDTV II is alive.
It's name is something like "Amiga CD 32 console".
The specs are just an A1200 + CD-Rom in a blue/grey/black phone-receiver
like case.
Pricing about DM 699.--, about US$ 415.-- or 280.-- Pounds.
It is offered in the latest catalogue (Herbst/Winter '93) of "Quelle", a big
German mail order company selling everything.
Sorry I didn't look it up myself to make specs and case design more precise.

So, if C= can do this, why shouldn't they be able to make an A1400 ?
The specs are very much like those of an A1200, and even with a reduced
(sniff) development team it is not hard to design a new case.

Ah, to you, MS guy.
Where do you get your information about Amiga development get from ? Billy ??

Get MS release NT or Word for the Amiga, then we can start talking.

Else ... just keep out of our newsgroups and flame yourself. :-W !!

hmm, don't think so! There is nothing wrong with its specs AT
ALL. It is just the evolution of the A1200 to what it should
have been. personally, i think that this guy is really narked
off because he has spent soooo much on his system already

85 MEG hard-disk! Is that all!!!?? With that acceleration, you
obviously do graphical work and ray-tracing. No? -That takes up
hard-disk space LOTS. HAM8 Renders with VistaPro3.1 are BIG (even with
JPEG compression.
If you don't use this system for anything other than games then its a
waste - but who cares - you obviously prefer PC's and don't like the
idea of Amiga's getting better!

they certainly do. Wait till July 20th. :)

You're right. Commodore hasn't announced any such critter and recent
cuts may well impact any impeding announcements. That doesn't mean that
they WON'T announce such a system, however.

At this point the A1400 *is* vapor, but we can hope, can't we?

It seems unfair to dump on someone who is *obviously* a tiny minority in
a certain organization that has a stranglehold on the PC operating system
(though I use the term loosely 8^) market. I may not hold said product
in the highest esteem (as my .signature attests), but I'll give you
points for good sense and individualism in your choice of a home system.
(I agree that your disk space looks a bit anemic, especially if you're
using something like CrossPC to provide a measure of compatibility with
your employer's products.)

As for rumored Amiga systems, my favorite is the portable built around the
new CDTV-II motherboard. I can dream, can't I? 8^) 8^)

I think there's enough rumour (ie it's been flying around on the
net for a while and most British mags have given it column inches)
to suppose that the Amiga 1400 or something of that order will
appear towards the end of the year...

I notice some people have remarked that Commodore haven't announced
anything. For me, that's proof that something in the pipeline
(remember all the announcements for the A500+ and the A600? :-))

The proposed specs for the A1400 are, true, not THAT much different
from the A1200, but I would like a A1200 with a detachable keyboard
and room for extra drives and a large hard drive as standard...
I'd rather fork out for that instead of buying a base 1200 and
souping it up!

Well, I must admit I've never seen a holy flaming cow before, but it
would probubly taste pretty good with some mustard. Any way, Commodore does
have something they say will be introduced soon. If you remember, thats the
AAA (true 16.8 million color) chip set. A rumor I've heard is that when
commodore started losing all kinds of money a while ago, they decided they had
better actually release some new, kick butt hardware soon. The AAA chips
weren't quite complete, so they released a virtually incomplete version. In
other words, AGA. Well, that's just a rumor, but AGA came out quite a while
ago, and the AAA chips were due out the end of this month. Quite possible
there won't even be an AGA CDTV, but an AAA one and an A5000 or something.
Anyway, Commodore has finally gotten their development team off their butts.
I'd expect AAA out any time, along with all kinds of great hardware in the
future.

I was refering to the 10 bazillion "me too" posts requesting on the
"just announced", "it sounds cool" "A1400" specs. It gets really
pathetic after a while.

I'm an avid Amiga user but I don't sit here in my office hanging on the
net with baited breath expecting C= to actually release a new cool
machine that will take the world by storm. I don't expect a new
"A5000" with 16 Alphas running AmigaDOS/P (for parallel) and
a two 68EC030s for $1300.00.

It's nice to hear some one actually not flame Ian (I think that's his
name) into the ground, but I believe Commodore will come out with a lot of new
hardware very soon. I think commodore lost all the money they did just prior
to the release of AGA. I think the reason they left the A1200 and A4000 on the
powerup deal for so long was to quickly raise a lot of money and to get a lot
of new people interested in the Amiga. Commodore has sold enough A1200's and
4000's that I'd bet they recovered enough money, and finally got their butts in
gear enough to keep from going bankrupt, that development will move very fast.
The AGA computers where enough of a jump forward that I'll bet the next line of
Amigas commodore introduces will be very hot hunks of hardware... at least I
can dream.

Nah, it's much nicer to hear someone toast that arrogant bastard. Sure the

Assuming "bazillion" to be a big number, if the posts bother you, don't
read them. The subject line was very clear. Yes, you are pathetic.

I couldn't care less if Commodore or Microsoft went out of business. By
the way, the price of the A5000 has dropped to $799.

Exactly. That's exactly why it's a very believable, and therefore exciting,
rumour. There is no new technology involved. It's a repackaged A1200.
Same technology, different box - the sort of thing a "decimated" C= could
churn out quite easily. Given that there's a strong demand for such a box
(most people with A1200s are very happy with them, except for the fact that
they look like a toy, and can't take a 3.5" HD or an internal CDROM).

>It's about as credible as the "A5000" specs touting 1 060 and 2 040s.

That's totally different. They didn't even get the AAA specs right - 512
colour modes, indeed! And why two 040s? It doesn't make sense. OTOH, the
A1400 is easy to do, even for Commodore now. It makes marketing sense, and
does not involve any wild claims about new chipsets.

>It's all VAPOR. BULLSHIT. BOGUS.

Vapor, sure, but bogus? I'm quite confident that we'll see something like
this, unless the A4000/030 price plummets.

You Americans all seem to think that Commodore is now totally out of it and
can never produce anything again. Well, there's a WOC on in Sydney this
weekend, featuring a new Amiga. Probably the AGA console. We'll see...

Well, the most strange thing about this is the fact that the first reliable
foto of this new machine is actually show in a mail order company catalogue.
What are our great hyper-up-to-date computer magazines are for ??
They didn't even have the specs first (in a precise version).
Not to mention the vague painting in AmigaFormat ....

Sorry, the German pricing is correct.
The prices in US and British currency result by using the current money
exchange rates (1 US$ = 1,70 DM, 1 Pound = 2,50 DM).
Note that German prices are always including VAT.

Why should I go to the PC newsgroups? I'm an Amiga user, I currentrly own
my third Amiga. It's a A1200. MBX1230XA 50Mhz 030 accelerator and
an 80MB hard disk. If you had enough of a brain to read my .sig

Commodore has been good enough, for the most part, with keeping Amiga
prices low. Especially with the new AGA machines. I don't think new
break-through Amigas will be purchasable with dead gerbils, but I expect the
price will be quite in reason. If the world is lucky, they might even be on
some sort of power-up deal for a while.

Because, being an A1200 in a new (bigger) case, it is more expandable.
Wouldn't you like to get a 3.5" drive and stick it in your case? or a
HD floppy? Be able to use the keyboard in your lap or on your bed?

With minimal development cost and a cheaper source of hard drives to keep
cost down, with an expansion ability smack dab in the middle of the A1200
and A4000/0X0, this is the machine MB was pining for a while back.

Admit it, if this legendary machine was out when you got your A1200,
might you have a different .sig right now?

Besides, they might need a little extra room for that vaporous DSP card. :)
We can hope...

That's not true. Many really competent people like actual Amiga developers
are on the net, and many things which came true where in here long before C=
announced anything officially.

Well, do you know the 'Haeger' comic in which his boot sinks in a storm and
he shouts to the god 'Why me ??' and the god answers 'Why not ?' ??
It would have a good position in the range between the A1200 and the A4000/
30. It is easy to do and will be cheaper because of the 3,5" HD. So I think
it would be a smart move by C=.

But why then flaming C= ?? Or it's advocators ?
And I mean it very serious with someone make MS release Amiga versions.
I also think I could not work for MS. As they have no Amiga versions, and as
it is Billy's definite aim to have MS operating systems and MS applications
on all machines of the world, this includes the end of the Amiga.

It is more interresting discussing about that than about hardware rumours

Ian, although I will agree the A1400 is vapor, and yet some people

Right now, for me, the A1400 is no more vapor than Windows NT is!

And if you are going to say that Windows NT is already in the developers

Feh..and the A600 did? ;-)

Ive heard from a very credible source (under NDA from Commodore) who has been
right several times in the past that the A1400 is alive and well, and due out
later this fall. The specs are true...The A1400 will be followed soon after by
the A5000's which will premiere in early-mid '94. The only A5000's in existance
are exclusively in the hands of CBM's R&D in Germany, and awaiting the release
of the 060 later this year in order to finalize production and have the model
in shipping before Comdex in 94.

Nah, you know how Commodore works--they'll keep the bloody secret even if
it means no development for it. I don't see the reason for excitement
(or even interest) over the rumored A1400. With the minimum A1200 still
maintaining a list price of $699, this new machine could not possibly

Wasn't there a mail-order company selling the A1200 for around $400?
That is a great price, IMHO, and C= could possibly set this as the
price point for the A1200 when the A1400 ships. C= needs to seriously
consider bundling their systems with "goodies" like the various Clone
manufacturers are now doing. Simply adding a CDROM, speakers,
monitor, and an audio digitizer to an A4000 system and then selling
it for a decent price would make an attractive alternative to the
various MPC boxes. Perhaps the CD32 will finally result in a CDROM
solution for Amiga owners and allow C= to catch up to the rest of
the world with respect to what is perceived to be multimedia by the
masses.

Commodore has yet to set a good list price for any of their systems. The
A3000 was (is?) selling for the excellent price of $999, but I suspect
Commodore's price to be higher than that of the A4000/030. This vaporous
A1400 would be reasonable with the A1200's price of $699, assuming the
thing included a harddrive.

My first Amiga vaporware incident is still my favorite. One of the things
that swayed me to an Amiga back when they first came out was Borland's
announcement of TurboPascal for the Amiga (at the time I had quite a
bit of stuff written in it). They even had an ad in the first AmigaWorld!

They never did release it.

How about dropping the A600, price the A1200 at $399, and move this
A1400 into the $699 slot. This A1400 seems to be the pizza box Amiga that
lots of users want. The HD version could be a really good deal with those

No. More precise info: The Commodore R&D in Germany was closed *several*
years ago.

Gee, I guess you believe all that ATARI has said in the past years then...

Not necessarily, but hey, supposedly that *somebody* already has...

And BTW, I was poking some fun at Ian too... I think he's a nice guy.

The A600 sells for $199 right now. The A1200 is at $399. I bought one new
yesterday for $399 (NO HD, NO Monitor, NO STRINGS ATTACHED).

That would be reasonable, but that wouldn't be Commodore. I still cannot see
why they released that backwards A600 at all. I still cannot see why they
left the clock (and manuals) out of the A1200 package.
