Belay last post -- I feel so stupid. I didn't notice the little switch-
looking thing in the door-area on the Drow levels, and thought all doors
were sealed. Needless to say this makes a difference!

A comment about the spider/poison level. If any of your people die, just run
back up to level 4 and get them resurrected with the nice dwarven cleric.
At least until you can get Dispel Poison for one of your clerics.
BTW: I killed off all the spiders on this level -- there's nothing worth
picking up in the spider maze. Rather boring place, actually.

Actually, there are TWO VERY useful items in Spiderland!

A: Stone Sceptre (for portals)
B: Ring of Feather Fall (for nasty li'l pits!)

Leave no stone (or spider) unturned!

When Eye of the Beholder is loading, how do you skip the introduction?
I've done it before but I'm not sure which keys (mouse button?) to press
and when. The documentation doesn't seem to mention it.

Thanks.

I *finally* got through to SSI Tech Support after several days, and
although they couldn't figure out my problem, they did point me to the
workaround, which was to hit ESCAPE during the introduction sequence
to skip it. You can do this as soon as the first screen of the intro.
