The files and disks are, unusually, all apparently fine,
but in the combat the game hangs as soon as the first spell
hit sample starts to play. Is this a known problem with these
titles, or is something weird on my system getting in the way?
What i do to run all the AD&D/SSI games on my 1200 is disable the
accellerator card (Blizzard IV by holding down the 2 key while
rebooting) boot up on Relokit 1.4 and wait for the kiskstart 1.3 screen
to appear. Press the left mouse button (Which switches off the cpu
cache) and play the games from floppy (Not so bad... the game play makes
up for the speed inconvenience) The games i have got are Pool of
Radience and Champions of Kyrnn. I am on the look out for all the AD&D
ssi games if anyone has got old games that they want to sell)

Just wanted to say I've been playing these SSI games for years now, and
thought you should know that they (or atleast the ones I have,
Treasures..., Pool..., Curse..., Etc.) work fine under 3.0 on my A1200,
even boot from HD if you copy all the disks there & assign them.

Must be SSI having changed something about their game engine then. I
don't have the Krynn series, or the Buck Rogers games, but (for example)
for me to run Treasures Of The Savage Frontier on my 3.0 A1200 I just
boot to workbench, as usuall, and double-click on my nifty TOTSF icon,
which runs this script:
Assign TreasureA: War3z!!:Gam3z!!/Treasures
Assign TreasureB: War3z!!:Gam3z!!/Treasures
Assign TreasureC: War3z!!:Gam3z!!/Treasures
War3z!!:Gam3z!!/Treasures/Treasure
Assign TreasureA: remove
Assign TreasureB: remove
Assign TreasureC: remove
The first 3 Assigns are for the 3 disks of the game, where I copied their
contents onto my HD, the 4th line starts the game, and the final 3 are
just to clean up after exiting. Also, possibly helpful, are the
tooltypes for the TOTSF project icon:
FILETYPE=notepad|text
FONT=Topaz. 8
WINDOW=CON:0/12/640/1/Treasures Of The Savage Frontier
Default tool is SYS:C/IconX, stacksize is 4096. The only time it does go
to floppy disk is to save the game, I never bothered trying to figure out
how to get this on hd, since it only takes like 2 seconds, and it's the
only floppy disk I ever use, so it stays in the drive. I used to play
SSI games from floppy on my C64, and on my A500, but I got tired of disk
swapping real quick after I got my A1200 w/hd, ya know? I hope this all
is of some help to you. I know this method, or something like it, will
also work for Pool Of Radiance etc., Eye Of The Beholder 1, and Dragon
Strike, becuase at one time, I had them all on my hd.
Hummm... Just a quick check, the sound file for Treasures is on DiskA,
it's called Sounds.glb, and is in standard iff format. Try checking for
the same, or similar, file on your Death Knights of Krynn disks, could be
yours has become corrupt...
No, it's definitely a badly-programmed game thing.
It doesn't matter which sample it is, it's just the first sample it tries
to play as any magical effect hits, and everything hangs. Which a corrupt
sample shouldn't be able to do, it should just go 'fssst'.
Besides, my samples are all fine, I've tried playing them.

I've just tried to do the Death Knights of Krynn and it does not work
as the original poster said, it tries to play a magic sound and the
amiga crashes.
The kyrnn series (And i think the Buck Rogers ssi games) seem to only
run on a 1200 with relockit 1.4 and not cpu cache and no accelerators.
Same here, the only way i can get the game to work is as i said
above, Relokit1.4 (So you can disable caching) and disabling the
blizzard board.
Thats about the same as what i have done for Pools of Radiance.
I`ve never played Treasures of the Savage Frontier, has anyone got a
copy that they would like to sell or swap?
The Dark Queen of Krynn runs just fine on my 1200 and if I remember
correctly I didn't even have to turn anything off nor use relockit. Of
the other ones I won't say a thing, I haven't tried them on 1200.

I have all the ssi games from my old 500 days as well and i can tell you
now that the only one of the krynn series that works is dark queen of
krynn, death knights and champions of krynn all crash in the same way as
you described..

Get hold of relokit1.4 if poss try to switch off any accelerator boot
off the relokit disk and disable cache using left mouse button. and
play the games off disk. (I'm playing Death Knights now so it proves
that it is possible)
