Just to let anybody reading the group know, Seppo's IP has without
warning discontinued their news service, leaving our Amiga diehard hero
temporarily (we hope) high and dry while he tries to find a reliable and
free news server that he can connect to.

Using your Joystick you must guide Seppo through the ether helping him
search for a Usenet server. Avoid the fearsome forums which patrol the
usenet access points - and don't forget, if things get too bad you have
3 multitask mayhem bombs and one postal strike. And legend has it, in
the event of ovewhelming resistance you can summon the Stealth Samurai,
if you can find him. Good luck! ;)

Perhaps he could try and join me on nntp.Aioe.org - seems stable thus far,
at least with the c.s.a.#? groups, I`ve been lurking around in, these last
two years - haven`t tried any of the other groups yet (certainly not when
they would be crowded with wintel w*nk3rz or fan-boys - very bad company
for an Amiga FUN-boy).

The website: http://news.aioe.org/

And it is most definitely a free service that could carry on going if the
present cr*ppy and totally corrupt money based economy could be phased out
(together with a certain Mr G and his evil empire/devices that all depend
on obscene "market-share" instead of user-friendliness!). A great idea
from: http://www.thezeitgeistmovement.com/ - that would not stand in the
way for the old Mig to come back, perhaps as open source...

Wouldn`t a Stealth Samurai be called a Ninja? Or don`t they travel on
cruise ships?

Anyway, not a bad game idea, especially if you can steer Seppo towards,
and into, the harder and more complex game scenarios, where he could help
to collect points for you. Of course it is still down to the player to try
and avoid falling into the time-warp so he/she can still experience a
FlashBack, with a bit of luck...

Hidehiko-san is not really a Ninja, as his bushido code does not permit
assassinations - when he meeets you on the field of battle, you will
know who it was that split you in two - although you probably won't be
able to contact him prior to the event.

Yes, that would just be another of his ports of call.

I managed to get a score of 20000 in "The City" mission.

Anyone tried the other scenarios (Europe 2, Desert Storm) that come
with A-10 v1.5?

Ah, good point - that must be what the "select mission set" option does.
:)

Well, I nver knew that stuff was there, and I knew we needed you on this
thread Seppo - even if your performance in The City mission was kind of
F18 Combat Pilot standard. ;) BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry.

I had a brief go at the Gulf mission set, the mission was called the
Dilemna, I think. You have to choose between helping a downed allied
pilot and taking out his intended target, a Scud missile launcher.

I went for the Scud, but I suspect a good pilot, a _really_ good pilot,
can achieve both. Over to you Seppo. :)

And where's that Nate gone, xome on Nate, its not as if our countries
even fly A10s! :)

I had a go at the mission. Naturally I went to aid the rescue of
the A6 pilot. I took out the enemy troop carriers in a single attack
run with RockEyes and then turned around and destroyed the
T-72 with a Maverick. A6 pilot was in safe so I left him waiting for
the rescue force.

Quick look at the map told me Scud platform was heading north,
trying to escape - so I stepped on the throttle and hurried after it.
I attacked my prey low and fast - first took out the SAM launchers
before they could launch any AA missiles and then the Scud
launcher, all with Mavericks.

Mission accomplished, score 32000 :)

BTW this was the first game I played with my Indivision AGA
equipped A1200. The Indivision is a card which is attached on
top of Lisa chip and it provides a nice TFT/LCD friendly
video. Because of this I can now use my A1200 for gaming
again - and the horsepower it has (with 50 MHz 060) makes
games like A-10 much smoother experience than the
E-UAE on my AmigaOne.

This was my big disappointment with Eyetech, the A1 was originally
envisioned as attaching to an A1200, giving (supposedly) full
compatibility. But as we know, they failed to bring it off. I gather the
A1 is a great computer though, I just had my heart set on the onboard
chipset plan. :(

Good call, but I think we should consider not only the esteemed Nathan
"Chuck" (work's really busy at the moment) but also Nathan from NZ of
ADOM and Hired Guns fame and that darned elusive Samurai of Mindwalker
and Air Support legend.

Right, my hog is fuelled and ready - skip the checks, we've got Scuds to

Okay, it took me several goes, but I got there in the end.

But Seppo, if you go for the pilot first they fire a scud at Tel Aviv,
and when destroyed the scud but abandoned the pilot I was told I had
made the right choice of priorities after the mission.

Well, I kept trying and eventually managed to get the scud (before Tel
Aviv did) and then pretect the A6 pilot. But it is pretty tricky to get
there in time.

Having said all that I only got a score of 28000, so what do I know. :)

Well, the Scud is primary target on this mission so naturally
the commander is happy. But he was happy with my mission
too (apparently, I now have a big fan club at US Navy) :)

Yes, I would imagine it is somewhat harder to complete the
mission this way than other way around.

What matters is that you got the job done, good score is
just a bonus :)

Right here - haven't visited the NG in some time. Work continues to keep me
swamped, as did my recent trip to Hawaii, upcoming Christmas shopping, etc.
I have no news server access at home but my work ISP has one so I guess for
now I'll need to communicate using it.

I'm certainly up to play a game or two for Christmas! Any ideas? RoboCod
II has a certain Christmas feel to it, but I'm not sure if he didn't already
play that one. Throw some game ideas out there. I especially like "80's
style Arcade Games", but am open to other game types as well.

I'll try not to be such a stranger; life gets increasingly busy as time goes
on. Must reset my priorities! :-)
