I've also heard that Thalion is supposed to do this convertition.
Is any of this true???

I assume you mean Civilization II...

Hmm, seems unlikely, because most, if not all of Thalion's members went to
Bluebyte (creating Albion which is not available for Amiga :(((((()
>Is any of this true???
You probably talked to several people, and I trust you on that :)

I can't really see it happening sadly, but hey, you never know.
Mircoprose in theory would have nothing to lose from it, but even
so....

Haha! :-)
No, but will Thalion/whoever gain anything from it? :-)
Yes, it would have to. And it should have CyberGFX/ECS-support too.
Then the market would have been increased A BIT, too.
If you like that sort of game, you don't know what you're missing.
There's nothing actually new as such in Civ 2, but what it is is
basically Civilization again with all the problems fixed and the
good bits perfected. Haven't seen something so flawless for ages.
An Amiga conversion? There's no technical reason why not..
I just wonder why anyone would suddenly decide it was an
economical possibility. Very unlike MicroProse to want
to go even this close to the Amiga these days..
However, the installation of Civ II takes 30-40Mb of HD space, excluding
video clips, so a FD version seems somewhat unlikely.
It's an excellent game... I got my house full of students (with PC`s)
hooked when I bought it for my GoldenGate 486 bridgeboard! :-))
Perhaps someone from Vulcan could convert it? :-)
Well, you know.. Bollocks, so what? :)
How many people who play games like Civilization don't have a
hard drive these days? Okay, 40M is rather more than a number
of HD owners could cope with, but just maybe, Civ 2 is such a
nice piece of software that it would encourage upgrades..
(Hell, I'd buy a CD-Rom if that was the only install disk format)
> Perhaps someone from Vulcan could convert it? :-)
I think they could stand to make very nice amounts of money..

Sure, but can you imagine fitting 40 disks in one box? :-)

You mean you haven't got one already? Shame, Sir! :-)

They could do very nicely, I reckon....
Would be really cool! Colonization should included a version which had bigger
sprites/fonts for those who run 800x600 and similar, though...

I dunno... How many disks does the PC-version take then?

Would certainly be COOOOOOL!
Heh. Now come on, 40M compresses to about 20M,
so that's sort of doable. Of course, it would be
nice if we all had HD floppy drives, too.

Sorry, but I don't actually have much use for one until software
starts being big enough to release on CD as standard.. Besides,
my mum's office machine has a CD-Rom, so I can read off that via
a parallel hookup when I -really- need to access one of the things.

It comes on one CD-ROM. There are video clips for all the wonders, CD
music, etc. The entire product doesn't install to HD, it's pretty
large.
gph
If there no diskversion planned?

I agree that one of the s/w houses should take on the project. I
have seen the game on PC's and it is impressive. The amiga would be
well suited to run it as well. Heck, if amiga apps are an indicator,
the game may be able to be provided with less system overhead than
what is required for the PC. Games of this nature would go well in
trying to revitalize the Amiga market. It is sad to see the Amiga
falling behind, and I would welcome such products. I still have
faith and have been striving to keep my Amiga as a kick-butt system.

Nope, Microprose will surely earn more if they release a net version later.

Civ-Net has been out for IBM for some time now. I would find a port
of that much better than Civ 2.
