A1200 is going to be the "host" and A500 is going to be the "client".

I've already tried the original "ParNET" software and everything seems
fine when both sides of the connection software start up. However,
they simply stop at "Waiting for connection . . ." and wait for a
while. Then one and/or both sides report "Object not found".

Please help. Recommendations welcome for the ParNET software, or other
software to use . . . I'm thinking about trying the "ParNFS" software
on Aminet next.

Thanks in advance. NOTE: email address spam-proofed

I've always had great success with ProNET which is on Aminet. It's much
more modern than Parnet (although still CLI based) and allows you to mount
individual devices form the remote machine so for example if you mount the
CD-ROM drive from the other machine the CD-ROM disc icon appears on your
Workbench.

ProNET used to be shareware but I tried to register recently the author
told me he has now made it free and sent me the keyfile FOC.

Pronet uses a standard Parnet cable BTW.

Pronet works fine here.

That was rather nice of him, wasn't it? Turning down the registration
fee when offered.. Sometimes I actually feel good about supporting
good shareware.. :)

(Reminds me, I had go register a 3d modeler online a sec.. )

That sounds to be what I'm looking for in getting my A1200 and A500
networked to each other.

Really? Cool. What's his email address ???

Thought so. Can Pronet run on AmigaOS/Workbench 1.3 ???? Or does it
need 2.x or higher ??? (I'm going to be upgrading the A500 to 3.1 soon
anyway.)

Don't know off hand (at work ATM) but if you download the package from
Aminet the EMail address there is the one I used.

I *think* it needs 2.x but if you get the demo you can set up and try it
out (the demo is limited to 10minutes use IIRC) then you'll be ready when
the keyfile comes.

Yes it was very kind although in a funny sort of a way I was actually a bit
disappointed, as you say it does give you a warm feeling to support authors
of useful, reliable software. I only found out because I EMailed him to
check his address (as I always do before regging shareware), I actually had
the DMs ready to send. Now I'll have to find somthing else to register :)

Have you got the HSMathslibs and MooVid? They are both pretty
reasonably priced, and well worth having..

MooVid PIV, of course, is jaw droppingly good, full-screen flayback
without even breathing hard.. The HSMatchlibs are nice- 040 and 060
optimised drop-in replacements for the system maths libs. They are
quite a shot in the arm for most systems..

I regged both of these, and have been very pleased with them. MooVid
isn't perfect, but it's so damned fast, and the author is so helpful,
that it's really worth encouraging him.

Well, that's my two pennorth. I'm sure you'll find something nice out
there worthy of a few groats..

Sorry for butting back into the thread here, guys, but do you know how

about registration.

Thanks in advance.

I just used the EMail address in the latest archive on Aminet. I don't have
the address to hand right now but I can dig it out for you if you want.

I don't know about Pronet but I've used ParBench which is a GUI for Parnet
pretty successfully between my A2000 and A4000. I did have trouble with
the cable working though and found that just shorting the 2 pins together
withouh disconnecting the other wire somehow made it work.

Maybe I'm lucky. I post with my real email address and only get about one
spam every other day.

You don´t have to register. Use some Internet-Search-Engines with
Pronet,
so you may found the homepage of the programmer. There you can download
the keyfile for free.
