CD32 repair: need help

Hi everyone,

I got a CD32 from ebay that generally works well, except that the
audio signal from the cinch sockets is very weak. (I tried different
cables with several different TV sets. No difference.) The audio
signal from the headphones plug is fine, and so is the audio signal
from the RF modulator.
I opened the case and had a look at the circuits, but couldn't find
any obvious defects. The shielding plates had obviously never been
removed before. The only thing I don't know what to do with is a piece
of metal/tin that's hanging from the small circuit board that handles
open lid detection/reset/headphones volume control/headphones plug. It
can be seen on the picture linked below, in the upper right (sorry for
the low contrast). It is a rectangular piece of tin that has been
folded at about one third of its length, the shorter part being flat
and perforated at one point, like it was supposed to be held in some
place (but which place?) by a screw. The longer part is curved and
thus may act like a spring or a clamp, or something similar.
There is a pit in the upper main board shielding plate that looks as
if the piece of tin should be fixed down there with the screw, but the
wire from which the piece of tin hangs is too accomplish that.
I tend to think that this clamp, or whatever it is, is simply there to
provide a decoupling for the headphones plug by touching the shielding
plate.
On the other hand, why the hole? And where is it supposed to be
attached? May this loose piece be responsible for the weak audio
signal from the cinch audio sockets?
Thank you for any help on this!
