Inter-syllabic pauses French vs English

Dear All,

Was curious to know that for an analysis of scripted speech for French
and English, which language in the general case will have more number
of short speaking pauses or inter-syllabic pauses? Is it english
because French has longer word durations? Can somebody point me in the
right direction and possibly some evidence please?
