Using CU Amiga/Internet FCI's 'TheNet' package.
Im new to these newsgroups, so please excuse any errors in
netiquette, but can anybody tell me where I can get hold of a copy of
Bars & Pipes 2.0 in the UK.
I know Blue Ribbon gave up on us miggy fans, but I need B&P to
intergrate with Scala MM400 as I can't control Music-X from Scala.

Blue Ribbon and the Bars & Pipes product was actually bought by
Microsoft. They are currently converting it to Windows.
I have been told by a source at Microsoft that they will probably release
the Amiga version as freeware at some point.

It'd be nice if Microsoft released the source code so some
bug fixes and improvements can be made. It's virtually freeware anyway,
once they put it on Compuserve.

No, MS bought BRS mainly for its Audio Active technology and API.
MS has never supported the Amiga anyway, and there'd be no reason to
support a competing product.
BRS tried to port B&PPro to Windows more than once, but couldn't, but
maybe they can with MS's help.

doh, it's on compuserve for free, it's in the microsoft forum somewhere,
yes it is a commercial program, but didn't you hear that M$ bought out blue ribbon
and scrapped all Amiga development???
thus, they put it on compuserve for free as it will no longer be supported or sold.

Erm, no. Blue Ribbon, makers of B&P were bought by Microsoft, and have
since decided to give the program away free to any Compuserve subscribers
who want it.

No, it was put up there by Melissa Jordan Grey herself, who was Blue
Ribbon's president. Just type GO BLUERIBBON and then either to the
messages from users or up to the libraries where the files are.
The parent forum is MSHOME (Microsoft Home).

I believe when Microsoft bought Blue Ribbon, they had no interest in things
Amigan so they dumped it. Some Amigan at BR convinced MS to release it
officially into the public domain. This is how the story was told to me, a=
nd
explains why it's on CIS under a MS forum.

BTW, three of the files I DL'ed were corrupt, the actual CIS filenames:
BRLIBD.LHA PMDRIV.LHA REALIM.LHA
did anyone else have this problem?

Well, "no interest" is not exactly true: they've refused to release
the source code (for the time being at least), which prevents Amiga programmers
from improving or fixing bugs. There's word that they intend to port it
to Windows (3.1 or more likely 95), although this has been tried in the past
by BRS itself. B&PPro multitasks, which W95 doesn't do well; besides which,
Windows (either) has timing problems with MIDI.
Yes, Brian Thomas was the BRS rep on Compuserve.
