Okay....so several weeks into the ADSL phase of my life, all is
well...DSL is a dream come true [especially after I got it working on the
Amiga!] except that I'm trying to post a bunch of binaries...not working.

I'm trying to post UUencoded messages that are split up into 300kb. I'll get
anywhere between 8 and 10 posts before suddenly they don't appear on the
news server. And I get NO error messages. It's not just my end, either -- people were asking what
happened to the missing pieces, etc.

Tried posting with Thor 2.6 and with the latest NewsCoaster...same results.
Some will go through, but they'll stop going through after about 8-12
successful posts. TEXT messages go through [i.e. just a few kb] but not big
ones. And usually I'm not able to post any more big ones until the next day.

I posted my problem to Verizon's general tech support newsgroup, and one of
their techies investigated my posting history for today. He says that
according to their logs, I attempted to post seven messages, and all seven
went through with flying colors. According to the logs, there were ZERO
problems.

Problem: Only five showed up on the server. The last two were ATTEMPTS to
post the sixth file.

Now, here are some thoughts I had and also some that tech support had:

Possibility #1: I'm only allowed to post a certain number of megabytes a
day, and any message that goes over the limit is rejected.

Shoot-down #1: Verizon's tech support tells me that there's no limit to the
number of bytes I can post. Only thing I gotta remember is to break up the
files so they're in pieces less than a megabyte. That's what I always was
doing, though.

Possibility #2: Perhaps the MTU settings are too high. Verizon tech support
says lower it to 1492 or lower, as it usually solves the problem.

Shoot-down #2: MTU is ALREADY at 1492, both on the router and in Miami. I
tried setting them LOWER, but they always revert back to 1492.

Possibility #3: Verizon's spam detector is killing my messages, thinking
they're spam.

Shoot-down #3: It's documented that if Verizon's spam detector activates, it
activates on the FOURTH message. Why was I allowed between 8 and 12
inclusive?

Possibility #4: As suggested by the tech support...it could possibly be on
the READER's side, especially as he saw by my messages that I'm using Thor
and NewsCoaster, neither of which he'd heard of. [Gee, wonder why! :) ]

So.....are there settings in either newsreader I should be aware of that
might be limiting my posting abilities? When I was on dial-up I had no
problems posting binaries on Thor 2.6 -- except it was too frickin' slow! :)
And I only started using Newscoaster because I thought maybe the problem was
with Thor...

Thoughts?? Comments??? Questions????

BTW -- my dialer is Miami 3.2B, over the Norway Ethernet card, connected to a Linksys router, connected to a Westel DSL modem...

Umm - try posting portions of 60K to make sure it goes through. Usenet
was developed back in the days of slow dialup... and UUCP typically
handled this chunksize.
