Printing Speeds...
Why not take the advice of whoever it was on the group
that suggested printing to a Postscript file and then
running Post in the background. Implement this
concept within FW itself (so it`s transparent to the
user). Dumping to an EPS file then letting Post 1.8x
print is about TEN times faster than letting FW3 print
the exact same page to the same printer with the same
preferences settings, and since Post is running as a
separate task, FW is only locked up for as long as it
takes to dump the EPS file, which is no time at all!
Equation Editor...
Either write your own or licence one of the shareware
ones out there. If it wasn`t for Mathscript or EqEd
I`d be using Word6 for all my document editing work.
Other things...
Word2/6 Import/Export filters
Public Screen
Tables
More flexible columns
Use standard gadgets/requesters where possible
Thanks for listening Woody, we all appreciate your
continued support for our favourite machine :-)
Regards
Chris

This sounds like a great solution for folks with laser printers, how
would it work for me with my dot matrix? FW may be slow, but it gives me
smooth output on my 24-pin printer - as smooth as I'm willing to wait
for.
PLEASE!!!! Something needs to be done about the speed!

I have a Panasonic 2123 printer with the color option available (but not
installed at this time). My FW4 question is ... at times I get some strange
printing. The upper half of the letters do not align with the lower half of
the letters for about 1/2 of 1-2 lines. The entire rest of the document will
be perfect?
Second question, why do all my printouts leave almost a two inch margin at
the top and about 1/2 inch at the bottom of each page ... no matter what
settings I use?
David ... maybe if you don't know, someone else will see and offer advise.
When the FW4 discussions first started, I saw lots of fixes. But, I didn't
want to just start randomly 'fixing' and end up messing up something else.
Thanks to all who reply.

A PostScript interpreter like HWGPOST or the old Post 1.7 will do
the same, possibly even better. In fact, the FW PS support is based
on the old post 1.7 library (which has more problems than HWGPOST
;^).

Get a copy of Microsloth Word & Expel for Wingrows, and make your
wp/spreadsheet able to do EVERYTHING they can do, including reading/writing
their files. I am sick to death of hearing people jump ship to the PC because
their Amiga can't do a hyberbolic inverse secant plot in their spreadsheet.
The Amiga is more than capable of running something like Word or Excel. I would
like to see it (although I am sure that we could do a better implementation).
All of the functionality in a better implementation.
You mean print the file to a postscript file and then go off and run post?
I don't think that's fine. If you mean that shareware? program, that thing
never works the way you tell it to. I tell it, "the top of the page" or
whatever and all it does is "yeah, I got yer top o du page, right here!"
Is this thing ever going to be re-released with a real user interface that
makes sense?
BTW, I have a Canon BJ-200

Registration problem, I expect. Things like this sometimes happen to me
when I try to print fast and jaggy. The printer doesn't start at the
right place and the entire print-line is mis-registered. This doesn't
happen to me at the default setting or at higher resolutions.

I don't know. I don't believe it's the printer or the software. MS Works
does the same thing on my 1124 and geoPrint did the same on my 9-pin. It
has something to do with graphic print mode. Recommendation: align the
paper with the top of the print-head shield. This will minimize the
problem. My default border settings are t:.6", b:.9", l:.8", r:.7" giving
me a narrower band at the top than the bottom and balance on the sides.

Yeah, that would bee perfect... Reminds me of Pen Pal.
Just let me tell that aside from printing speed, I LOVE FWriter! Its a
fine piece of suftware, and it justifies owning my Amiga. Therefore I have
high expectations on Final Calc, and I am willing to be one of the first to
buy it... In deed, I already saved for it :)
Thanx 4 FWriter!

I have a Citizen GSX 140-Plus, and have this problem from time to time as
well. I never thought of it as a printer driver problem, just an occasional
glitch in the paper feeding. Think about it...with the printer having to
make at least two passes for each line of text, there's precious little room
for error.

I'm using Final Copy II, so your mileage may vary. ;-) It could be a con-
flict between your "print area" and "edit area" settings in the page setup
requester. (IMHO there's no reason at all to have two settings. I set the
left and right "edit" and "print" areas to 1/2 inch (a built-in limitation
in my printer), and the top and bottom "edit" and "print" areas to zero,
and just let the document margins do the work.)
On the other hand, check if your printer has built-in margins. I had to
program mine to start at the very top of the paper to get rid of the 1-inch
factory default that Citizen had set. (I know laser printers can't go too
close to the top and bottem edges, but I don't recall why Citizen bothered
with this...)
My apologies if somebody has already answered this...Delphi's usenet feed has
been down for almost 24 hours! :-(

Try using MathScript or EqEd which both can do equations and export them in
several formats (IFF, ASCII, EPS, POSTSCRIPT). Both programs do have AREXX
port so the direct export to FW 3/4 is no problem! The AREXX scripts for that
are even included.
The porgrams can be found on Aminet!
