The Sunday, 15 July 2012 San Francisco Chronicle had a profile of
a 34-year old named Jeremy Stoppelman who started a Web company
eight years ago. Says that his introduction to the computer technology
was when:
"He got his own personal computer, an Amiga 2000, when he was
in the 10th grade, and he was soon convinced that he'd be a video
game programmer when he grew up."

Unlike the Commodore Amiga engineers who exited the computer field
completely in 1994 (note how they've contributed nothing) this kid stuck
around, obviously dumped his Amiga at some point, and:
"Today, Yelp has a market capitalization of about $1.3 billion, and
Stoppelman's 11 percent stake is valued at more than $145 million."

Yawn. So what? Is this what amounts to Amiga advocacy these days?

There's new Amiga's being produced and a new operating system based on the OS3.1 source code: http://os4.hyperion-entertainment.biz/

hardware: http://www.amigakit.us/

Nice to run Amiga software on Ghz machines! If you thought it was fast back "in the day" you haven't seen anything yet!

Is there a decent browser yet?

$1,189.08 for a 1GHz PowerPC, the same speed as the CPU in my old G4
MDD, retired from active duty long ago but still working and
occasionally used. That's with its maximum of 2GB RAM, the same maximum
RAM as the G4 MDD which was current just one year short of a decade ago
and equipped with a Radeon HD4850, which is now considered a legacy
product by AMD. Yeah, I'm sure I'll go for that.

No kidding, if I wanted an underpowered, overpriced machine I would just
get a Mac!

They have a port of Firefox called "Timberwolf." Can't say how it
performs... but its gotta be better than Voyager or IBrowse ever was.

Yeah, but who is left to care by now?

There isn't any reason other than nostalgia to use any kind of Amiga.

Unless your name is Terry Palfrey in which case you are probably
stubbornly using the Amiga as your main computing platform, relegating
your PCs to the status of "peripherals".

Not disagreeing with you one bit. :)

Once in a while I get in a nostalgic mood, fire up my old BBS via
Amiga Forever/WinUAE, and play some Global War II or CircleMUD or
Empire. :)
