Hmm. How long is this thread going to run? I'm sure it's patently obvious
to everyone else out there that if you want to split a binary file you just
uuencode it first, but how long is it going to take you guys to work that
out, instead of bickering about which switches are available? I'd hope that
both your flavours of Unix can handle uuencode...

So after running my downloaded stuff through info-zip to squeeze an
extra 10% or so off the size, you suggest I run it through uuencode to
add 35% odd to the file size. So the 10 meg zip file of the shuttle
replay clip sitting on my hard disk here at work would take 19 floppies
rather than 14 to get home.

I've just written a quick binary version of split and split the replay files
on mortimer.cc.ic.ac.uk into more manageable chunks.

But PLEASE be careful with wildcards now since shuttle* now comprises of
26 Mb.
