Something peculiar seems to have been caused by a recent Windows update,
or summat. Anyone else?
Using RISC OS 5.12, Omniclient 2.12, Lan Manager 2.30 I can today only
transfer files < 1025 bytes to windowsXPsp3. Pulling files off XPsp3
using LanMan seems to work okay, whatever their size.
Any thoughts?
(It's okay, I am coping with NFS/Sunfish for now - with the 'doze
Firewall off..with the added benefit of not having ,xxx appended to
files' names. Yippee...;)

This has been discussed a lot on David Pilling's software mailing
list, for various reasons. The outcome seems to be that you need the
new LanMan98 2.00; that has certainly gone on working here for me,
after the Windows updates.
HTH,
With best wishes,
Peter.

After installing Service pack 3, Omniclient stopped working here - or it
could have been something associated with it. Anyway the result was I
couldn't open the shared directories on the PC.
I asked here with no answers - so did a system restore back to before '3'
was installed and things came good.
Is there a better way of file sharing than Omniclient?

See my post of earlier today. I'm pretty sure you'll need LanMan98
version 2.00, but you will have to force CJE to give it to you by
forcing money on them :-)
It works fine here to and from Iyo and XP with service pack 3 and all
the current Windows updates. I think it even works with Vista.
I think this may become a FAQ.

Works fine with Vista for me.

All versions of LanMan can be set to NOTYPES which will not append the ,xxx
For files you want to access on other OS's have a mount with NOTYPES set
For backup purposes use a different 'standard' mount!
Best of both worlds!

RISC OS 5.13, Omniclient 2.12, Lan Manager 2.30, WinXP Pro version
2002, SP3.
I noticed there was an update waiting to happen - so I tried to copy
a suitably large file across from RISC OS to Windows first, and it
worked. I then allowed the updates to happen, then tried it again,
and it still worked.
I'd suggest rebooting both machines in case something has simply
glitched in some way, and try again.

[I tried it, updated, then tried it again and it still worked]
I take that back. Something went wrong with the previous update and I
didn't notice - it's now updated properly, and I now have the same
problem.
Given that the new version of LanMan98 works, as reported by Peter
Young in another post, I'd buy it - except that I'm having trouble
finding it on the CJE website.
Chris? Pointer, please!
(Actually - and unfortunately - my plans for February have changed
somewhat, which means I'm now free for the SouthWest show, so I'll
probably go along as a visitor. Perhaps I'll purchase it then.)

I'm not Chris, but here's the pointer (this line will wrap horribly,
and probably won't work till it's been put into a text editor and
formatted properly);

It might just still be in stock then ;-)

Ah. Thanks for that.
Funny thing is that around Christmas I had a few MP3s playing across
LanMan and they would occasionally stop working with a network error.
Reconnecting Omni/Lanman to the PC folder always cured it; I assumed it
was one of those windowsxp/firewall/antivirus things. After setting up
Sunfish yesterday I discovered no problems with AMPlayer playing MP3s
from the big drive in the PC so I may stay with NFS and Sunfish which
seems a lot less, er, cluttered too.
I think Omni and LanMan will be quietly retired..

Well, I don't know about better for definite yet, but the combination of
installing the TrueGrid NFS Server on WinXP and Sunfish on RISC OS
doesn't seem to have any drawbacks yet. It has even reminded me to turn
off window's firewall. :-)
There is (was) an article on Drobe but that seems inaccessible at the
moment. Google's cache helps, search for 'truegrid risc os' and the
cached first item has step-by-step instructions.

Wonder if you could use AVG's one and program it to allow it automatic
access?

Ok - I'll look. Omniclient works ok - but takes ages.

Good idea but shan't bother. Pee Sea is behind a router.

I've tested transfer with the upgrade, ad after uninstalling the
patch. It fails in both cases, and with LanMan 1.22 and 2.00.
The failure happens at aboput 750MBytes into the copy. I'm copying CD
tracks in WAV format, so they're large files.
Apparently uninstalling the patch doesn't clear a registry change done
by the patch, which might be why it still fails after removing it.
Look up MS09-001 on Microsoft's site for more details of what it is,
and why. Basically it closes a couple of large security holes in the
SMB protocol. It's not surprising therefore that third-party
implementations of SMB have trouble.

There's a mistake in the first packet of the write half of LanManFS
(the read half doesn't have the problem, hence still works after this
latest Windows XP SP3 update specifically MS09-001). I've pointed it
out to ROOL who now know which line to look for,
Sprow.
We believe we've (Rob Sprowson, actually) fixed the cause of this in
LanManFS (part of OmniClient). Hopefully, ROOL will be able to distribute
this all sometime very soon.

Hmm. 3.5" disc?
I can move that onto the Iyonix, but not without crawling around in
the loft first. Given that there's a potential fix on the way from
ROOL, I guess that's a better option.
Thanks anyway.

Hello, Steve,
Is that fix going to be available to Iyonix users?
