Just upgraded my Kinetic to latest LanMan which allows drag & drop
from an XP machine but only allows me to drag & drop from my Windows 7
not to it. I have set numerous shares & permissions in the 7 machine.
I can of course move files from the Kinetic through the XP to W7 but
its not really satisfactory.

Any ideas please ?

Odd. If you can drag files /from/ the W7 machine, you've got
connection and authentication sorted out. The only thing I can
think of that remains is permissions for the user you log in as,
on the directory you're trying to write to. It sounds as though
you've got read-only permission.

Do you have Microsoft Office Live Addin installed?

This is causing no end of sharing problems if your aren't sharing
Windows to Windows.

I couldn't access my Windows share through XMBC until I removed this
software.

A warning though, Office 2010 has this software built in, and you
cannot remove it!

Certainly sounds like read only. Any ideas on what I need to set to
give full permission ? I have set file sharing on folders to
'everyone' & 'Read/Write'. In LanMan I have Server: Main Share:
User User: user. Could it be something to do with sharing the root
drive (user) & if so tell me how to change it.

Someone did say try setting a password on the W7 machine but it made
no difference so I have removed it.

I don't have MS Live Addin, well I don't think so. Please tell me how
I check. I have MS Office 2007.

Thanks
Martin

On a suggestion from a friend I created a folder directly on the C
drive of the W7 computer & LanMan 2 saw it & allowed drag & drop both
ways. I would still like to be able to share My Documents but at least
now I can transfer files easily & more important still do it when my
XP machine disappears.

Assuming Windows7 has the same mechanisms as Vista and XP, you can
change the location of My Documents (Documents in later versions).

Set up the folder where you want the shared version to be.

From the local equivelent of the Start menu, right-click on Documents,
and choose Properties. There will be an option to Move it. Browse to
your new folder, and say OK. When asked if you want to move the
existing documents, say Yes.

You might need to change the permissions on the new folder afterwards.

Warning: Don't move Documents to a mapped network drive on Vista, or
probably, on Windows7. It works, but you can't change it back if you
don't like the results.

I tried it with the intention of using Offline Files to keep a local
copy. Then discovered the Home editions don't have offline files. I
ended up having to create a new user, copy the files to the new user,
and delete the old one - in that order, most important.

Thanks for that but in view of the risks involved I'll stick with what
I have got for the time being.

The way that I have found to share My Documents of W7 is to go to
C;\Users\Martin (assuming that Martin is your user name) and right
click on "My Documents". Click on sharing and share with the
Homegroup.

Once again right click on "My Documents" then "Properties". Click on
the "Sharing" tab and you will see that the share name is
\\MARTIN-PC\USERS\DOCUMENTS which is no use to man nor LanMan98.

Click on "Advanced sharing" then on the "Share this folder" button
when you will be able to change the share name to "Documents". Click
"Apply" etc and return to LanMan98 where you can set up a share disc
in the same way as you have already done.

Alan.
