Hello

I've just upgraded to Leopard on a MacMini. I used to browse folders
using OmniClient (v2.12) from my Iyonix (RO 5.14) but now it no longer
connects instead it times out. It appears that Leopard has some
unresolved bugs wrt SMB shares. My work around is to use FTPc, which is
OK for transferring large amounts of data but does not present an RISC
OS filer like interface.

1) Has anyone got an Iyonix talking to an Apple computer using
OmniClient?
2) Is there an FTP client for RISC OS that allows dragging and
dropping/copying between 'filer windows' (that is instead of copying
from remote disc to local disc and then local disc to remote disc)?

Thanks in advance
Stan

Definitely does not work here. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to drag a folder/file from an FTPc window (connected to my
NAS unit) over to an FTPc window showing one of the folders on the
macmini.

The folder/file is definitely not copied.

OK that does work. But dragging between FTPc windows does not, which
is why it says so in the manual :( RTFM.

Cheers

Ah, I had misunderstood, you are using the RISC machine as an intermediate

Never tried that.

Presumably you can drag from each to the RISC machine OK, it's just the 3-way
transfer that doesn't work?

That was what was nice with Samba I could copy from one 'network'
drive to another (for small files that is). Leopard seems to be 'broken'
in some way wrt SMB shares. However FTP beats the pants off it in terms
of speed and reliability.

On the other hand OmniClient on my Iyonix has no problem seeing the SMB
shares on my iMac and Mac mini. I have been round this loop elsewhere, it
really didn't matter how often I said it was fine, it did not help the other
chap for whom it was not fine.

The only problem I have with Leopard and now Snow Leopard is with ShareFS
failing on VRPC on the iMac under certain circumstances.

!Omni is useless on the A9home and RiscPC due to file name truncation, there
FTPc does come into its own.

I don't know whether it has anything to do with anything but both Mac use
wired ethernet connections.

Good to hear that it is possible. It worked fine under Panther so a bit
annoying that it doesn't want to play at the moment with Leopard. I have
now found out that I also cannot connect using another Mac via SMB
shares so I will go through the process couple more times. If it doesn't
work I will considering a fresh install on the macmini. Maybe something
isn't quite right after the upgrade.

Same here. Both macs and the Iyonix are on the same router with a wired
connection.

What have you filled in in the WINS section of the Networking configs?

Nothing, never touched it.

I fear a fresh install is needed as I can't connect to SMB shares on the
mac mini from MacOSX, Snow Leopard or Tiger or Linux. Something is
broken on the mac mini so I guess for now OmniClient is not at fault.

Just for the record, did you change any settings in OmniClient to cope
with new versions of MacOSX?

Thanks for your input so far.

No. As a newcomer I started on 10.5.6, Snow Leopard did not change anything.

Yes, I abandoned it both at home and at work in favour of the
current version of LanMan98.
