Anyone got a Castle Net21 100Mbps NIC they could loan?

Hi,
While updating the EtherY driver (to make it faster!) I'm at a point
where testing two back to back would be useful. Do you have one? The
duration of the loan would be ~1 week, and postage would be refunded
in both directions.

Obviously borrowing one which is gathering dust in an unloved Risc PC
would be best, but the short loan period might mean you wouldn't
notice. I even checked CJE micros, but they have no stock (!).

If you can help, please swap "news" in my email address to "info".

Thanks in advance,
Sprow.

An eerie silence. Does that mean Castle only ever sold 1 of these
upgrades then, which is why they're so hard to pin down, or maybe
they're all in heavy daily use.

If it helps, I could loan a NIC so you're not without ethernet for the
few days I'd like to prod the Net21 for,

I've been meaning to check what kind of NIC is in our RISC PC as I really
cannot remember! What's the quickest way of identifying it? I'm pretty sure
it's a 100Mbps card.

*Help Ether.
and tell us the letter after 'Ether'. The Castle card is an EtherY.

Ah, sorry, we have EtherX. Looks like that's a Simtec card then.

I remember when I got the card that it was not yet supported by ARM Linux
(and may yet not be). I was using ARM Linux on the RISC PC to develop an
Apache / PHP / MySQL web site. I also never got Firefox running on it, so
for testing I had to use a browser on RISC OS on the Iyonix, connected to ARM
Linux on the RISC PC via a null modem cable. Not the most satisfactory
solution. I tried installing ARM Linux on the Iyonix, but there was some
problem over that installation which I never overcame. Eventually I got an
NSLU2 and installed Debian on that, and it's still going strong.

Thanks for checking. Fingers crossed an EtherY will turn up, from
somewhere,

Chris Whytehead has one listed in his 32 bit expansion pages:

Worth a direct approach in case he's not seen your original posting?

EtherX is a Simtec card - if anyone is interested - it might be worth
asking them -if the 32bit module is available?

Should work ok with RO4.02/5.19

Already spotted that. I tried emailing Chris (to the acorn@ address
given) a couple of times a couple of weeks apart asking if I could
borrow it, but got no reply, so now that page merely taunts me with
the exact thing I'd like to borrow - yet so far out of reach...

I believe Chris has hasn't been well, he's also moved house and had to put a
lot of stuff into storage. So it could take him some time.

Yup, I've subsequently exchanged with Chris W, and have been endurance
testing the loan NICs/podules - while out today the updated driver has
shifted 3.6GB in 12.2 million packets,

How does the through put compare with RO4.02?
