Iyonix died

Well, my Iyonix died yesterday. When I switched it on,
the monitor complained of "Disconnected", but would display
perfectly well from another source. After a few attempts
with similar results except that I normally had to press
Reset to get it to boot at all (still no display at all), I
decided to open the case and re-seat all the cards. I also
tried removing the sound card (an extra that I added but
have never used) and the podule backplane. Since those
ministrations, it has not booted at all.

Now I have to decide whether to get the Iyonix repaired, or
to make the BBxM my primary computer.

power supply? Certainly, the first thing to check.

It's alive again - sort of. It's open on its side on the
floor, with one of the optical drives disconnected, the
second sound card out, and an old PSU (sadly the wrong
mechanical size) resting on the original PSU.

You won't be surprised, I'm sure, that I'm currently
taking a full backup.

When the backup is complete, I'll see if the old PSU
still works, because that would be a cheap (if temporary)
solution that would allow me to close the case again.

If you have not already done so, give the inside of the PSU a good clean
to get out all debris and replace any of the capacitors that are showing
signs of bulging due to "Capacitor plague" see:
