Just a short notice, that the new newsgroup comp.sys.raspberry-pi has just
been created. There will certainly be some topics on the new newsgroup which
are also interesting for readers of this newsgroup.

Even after a few posts it's looking like proper newsgroup, with trolling
and flaming already. Ah for the days before csa.* became so boringly
'nice' and I could hand out well deserved druckings on a regular basis.

On 4 Apr 2013 as I do recall,
Well, after months of warnings Google finally seem to have broken the
Usenet archive on NetSurf - not only can I not see Michael Gerbracht's
original post, but the ?selm=<MsgID> method of accessing it via the Web
no longer works and I can't find a way of accessing the Advanced Search
to do it manually :-(

A Google search for 'comp.sys.acorn.hardware gerbracht raspberry-pi'
finds the post at number one. Clicking the link shows the thread with
collapsed messages, but clicking on 'Individual message' finally shows
Michael's post. Hard work - maybe there's an easier way.

All that happens for me when clicking on the search result is that I get
an advertising page informing me that "Along with familiar features like
group creation and search, Google Groups has a new look and exciting new
features" and asking me to "Sign in" or "Take a tour of Google Groups"
:-(

Editing the URL to take me back to
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.acorn.announce/tree/browse_frm/month/2012-10/c27428a4bf279983?rnum%3D11%26lnk%3Dnl
(which I assume to be a link to the 'actual' message) simply redirects
me to their log-in page again.
Not much of an archive any more!

Today, the first of the 20 search results

comp.sys.raspberry-pi has been created - comp.sys.acorn.hardware ...
groups.google.com/.../comp.sys.acorn.hardware/.../309215ffec47f423?...
4 days ago ... Just a short notice, that the new newsgroup
comp.sys.raspberry-pi ..... A Google search for
'comp.sys.acorn.hardware gerbracht raspberry-pi' ...

leads to

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.acorn.hardware/browse_thread/thread/0b92ee770203ea70/309215ffec47f423?show_docid=309215ffec47f423

which displays 10 collapsed messages, in this current thread, and
clicking on the first 'Individual message' link, leads to

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.acorn.hardware/msg/6347622b5746ca07

which opens Michael's original post.

(I'm using NetSurf #1009, with 'Disable JavaScript' unset. NetSurf
cookies and disc-cache were cleared during RiscPC boot, an hour ago. I'm
not logged-in to my Google account)

Clicking on the message

The old Google Groups will be going away soon, but your browser is
incompatible with the new version.

leads to

http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=33864

which says that

Google Apps supports the following browsers:

 Chrome
 Internet Explorer
 Firefox
 Safari

NetSurf is not on this list - nor is Opera - so we may expect further
problems when, and if, Google switches off the old version of Groups.
