Who's Michael?
Author of one of the best BBC emulators ever. And it's for RISC OS.
Cheers!

I wouldn't imagine it has a name, no idea about the composer, I'd guess Simon
Pick as he's the guy who wrote the game. But ICBW :)

If it makes any difference, the C64 version is in HVSC credited
to Simon Pick & Marie Spilman (Visions Software Factory 1984).
The SID file contains six subsongs of which STIL lists:
#2: Moonlight Sonata (nr 14 in C minor) by Beethoven
#4: Funeral March (nr 2 in B flat minor) by Chopin
#5: Arrival of the Queen Sheba by Händel
and #6 is a classical piece I can't name right now. Possibly #1 and #3
are classical covers as well, but not yet recognized by the STIL crew.

Michael Foot converted DDD to RISC OS and so it follows he will know :-)
Michael Foot, the person who converted DDD to RISC OS.

Naah, it's definately a cover of an oldie - I've heard it used in films and
TV.
I seem to recall the original being a very delicate, piano-based piece.

Dave.
Right, they used it in one of the Carry On films, Carry On Camping I think,
played with the violin.

Is there a downloadable sound clip anywhere, or does one have to locate
the game (and an emulator) to check it?
Delicate piano-based piece does quite nicely fit to the Moonlight sonata,
but maybe we're discussing another piece of music here?

The SID was actually ripped from "DDD - The Sequel" and sadly, the track Gaz
refers to isn't featured :o(
This is an mp3 of the track in question:

C'mon - somebody's gotta know the name!! (I too have been wanting to find
out for donkey's years!)

Wow, thanks for the link I haven't actually heard this version since I had
my beeb!
Anyway, during my quest I found this website http://name-this-tune.com/ and
typed in a parsons code similar to *uuddududduuddddddudurruddddddu and wadya
know, (Hayden, Joseph): string quartet No.17 in F major op. 3/5, 2nd
movement, 'Serenade' theme, now attributed to Hofsätter came up top. Here's
a midi version I found of it
http://member.nifty.ne.jp/sho_nom/Middata/Hsq17-2.mid.
Thank you for all your answers, Gaz.

A similar site, where you enter the actual notes rather than only "up"
or "down" is this one, although strictly devoted to classical music:
http://sd.znet.com/~iwamura/page2.html
> (Hayden, Joseph): string quartet No.17 in F major op. 3/5,
> 2nd movement, 'Serenade' theme, now attributed to Hofsätter
Actually the second movement is Andante cantabile, which also
can be found at http://www.classicalarchives.com/haydn.html
Finally, the HVSC references for this piece of Haydn goes to
Wheelin Wallie subsong #6 and Kai Lehmann (Ass It), although I
must admit the BBC arrangement sounds nicer. :)
