Hi All,

I'm using my A5000 with a Samsung Syncmaster 152v TFT monitor.
However, during full screen games, the picture is "letterboxed"

Example of screen here - http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/robjheaton/Screen#

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get games working in full
screen?
I've tried a few different screen modes, but to no avail!

Thanks,
Rob.

Will your monitor take a 15khz signal? Try configuring monitor type to
multisync and see if you get a picture. If not, you'll have to buy a
proper multisync.

Thanks for the reply Tom, I gave that a go, however my screen just
went black,
looks like I'll have to have a look around for a new TFT.
Anyone got any recommendations?

15KHz means supporting the old 256 line modes natively doesn't it? You
probably won't be able to get one, monitors supporting that pretty much
disappeared nearly 20 years ago. About the most advanced I knew of was
the Taxan 770 and that struggled to achieve SVGA!

If you only want to use the computer for games you could probably hook
it up to a TV with a SCART socket that accepts RGB. The old low-res
monitors actually used SCART sockets, but for a TV you might need to
make a circuit to make the sync composite.

Otherwise you'll have to reconfigure the A5000 to VGA/SVGA and put up
with the letterboxing (does it also change the frame rate from 50Hz to
60Hz or even more?). I've also got a vague memory of a module called
something like GameModes which let games run at full screen height, but
they had to be written to be aware of it because they were supposed to
draw each line twice, only 240 logical lines (480 real ones in VGA) were
available instead of 256, and again I think the frame rate was increased
to 60Hz.

I'm not aware of any Multisync LCD Monitors or ones that will accept 15KHz
input. The exceptions being those that have multiple types of inputs and
have a SCART socket, but these are normally large 28"+ and sold as TVs that
have one or more 'other inputs' including Scart, S-Video & SVGA.

More and more LCD Monitors in our experience are also only accepting 60Hz
input and I'm not meaning just a minimum of 60Hz but also a maximum of 60Hz

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I'll learn to live the
letterboxing!
It's better than the black screen that I used to get!!!

For that particular game (Flashback), have a look in the !Run file -
there should be a bit something like:

| Change to VGA to avoid letterboxing
|
Set Rate VGA

If rate isn't already VGA, make it VGA :)

I fiddled with CustomRPC to make 'small' modes, ie. 640x512, with huge
black borders and a 320x256 screen in the middle - a bit smelly, but it
at least meant the aspect ratio was right :)

Thanks Alex,
I'll have a play!
