Hi,

Hope someone can help.

When I run Holed out on my A3010 I get the following error message:
Bad filename 'Net:%Logon'

Press SPACE or click mouse to continue.

But I don't get this error on my A4.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks,
Kevin Melling.

Followup:

I've just managed to get the A3010 to boot off the original floppy by
setting the machine up with:
* Configure filesystem ADFS
* Configure drive 0

I normally boot off an IDEFS interface with a Compact Flash Card
attached to and IDE adapter. If that's at all relevant..

Thanks,
Kevin.

I suspect the battery is flat (if you are lucky) or has failed.

You will need to make all the cmos changes that the interface needs
(hopefully you have a manual or can find on online).

It would then be sensible to make a backup of the cmos settings.

I would suggest you leave the thing powered up for about a day to see
it the battery will charge.

Don't get it. I'm sure the CMOS settings are working; my followup was
to make the A3010 boot off floppy. The disc is part of an old "Real
McCoy 2" pack and has a !Boot file. The problem seems to be something
in my "HardDisc"'s boot sequence as Shift-Boot also lets the game
load. Probably something network related?

Does this still suggest it might be battery?

Does the system maintain the correct time after being switched off
overnight?

From memory, the issue is that the Holed Out code contains lines like:

*L. somefileorother

If Econet is set as the current filesystem, then *L. resolves to *Logon
rather than *Load (or something along those lines)

Quite easy to fix if you can get at the code, although the easiest thing
may be to get in touch with CJE Micros who I think hold the rights now
and see if they can help you out with a working copy.

Alex.

No, CJE don't we do.

This sounds like a very old copy, predating RO3. These sort of problems were
common then because the re-arrangement of modules meant that programs that
used single letter abbraviations didn't work.

The later versions are, of course, OK.

Yes, it's very old - part of a Real McCoy pack picked up at this
year's Wakefield charity stand. I doubt I'd get any support for it
(ie. a working module) so I can easily live with SHIFT-BREAK to stop
booting
before I try to load it.

Unless there's a module I can RMKILL first in the !Run file?

Thanks for all your help,
Kevin.

Many, many years ago ISTR there used to be a module you could run which
intercepted all these old RO2 abbreviations and expanded them to work under
RO3. Don't ask me what it's called or if it's still obtainable (though it's
probably on one of the APDL CDs.)

L. was used as an alias for Load.. so iirc...
ALIAS L. LOAD will do the job with some titles.

The current Holed Out is the compendium tho; certainly a better choice.

Perfect. I've put that in my !Run

I might still buy that then!
