The freeware games programming group ARM'd & Dangerous announces two new
releases:
Kryten98
You are Kryten, a mechanoid aboard the mining ship Red Dwarf. All the crew
have been dead for over 3,000,000 years. Your only company is Dave Lister
the last surviving human, the ship's hologram Arnold J Rimmer, a being
evolved from felines named the Cat and a senile computer called Holly.
You have been deactivated for some reason. When your auto-reboot kicks in
you find yourself in an empty quarters. Your worry chip is on overload and
your anxiety circuits are burning out! You MUST find the rest of the crew,
the ironing will just have to wait...
This is a Red Dwarf interactive fan-fiction game. The locations range from
Justice World to a vat of dogs' milk. A variety of characters, from the
original series and 3,000,000 years before, feature in the game along with
numerous familiar objects and a long trail of in-jokes for Red Dwarf fans.
This is a must download for smegalomaniacs!
Groundhog Demonstration
While this game is not officially an ARM'd & Dangerous game it was written
by David Johnston with help from other members. To find out how to get the
full version, which includes masses of levels and a two player game, read
the !Help file supplied.
Your aim is to reach the flashing exit to proceed to the next level.
Whenever the clock in the top-right goes round you will go back in time to
the point where you entered the level. Coming into contact with an earlier
version of yourself will cause a paradox and you will have to start the
level again.
The buttons located around a level will open corresponding doors but these
close again when you step off the button. However a past version of
yourself can open a door allowing you to enter it.
You may shoot the robots which patrol the three levels in this demo version,
but when you travel back in time you will not have killed them yet. Also try
not to kill your past self, that's a bit of a paradox!

Previews
Another new addition to the site, previews of three games soon to be
released; Shooting platformer 'Blood Lust', Exploration/puzzle game 'Gold
Run' and a new varient on the Tetris genre never before seen on this
platform (AFAIK) 'Crystil'. Each of these has a screen shot of the current
state of the game and a reasonable description of its workings.

Scully: That's over four liters of blood Mulder: Could say the guy was running on empty.
However in light of matters I feel it un appropiate to open the site
publicly. You can expect to see a site online within a week.
I can pass no correspondence about this matter yet.
However I was forced into posting here, as my postbox is full of emails!!
You can be assured the wait is worth it!
Many thanks,

Yes this is version 2.0...
I've actually just made version 2.1 after a bug report. The compression
program !StrongBS added a syntax error into the saving procedure (typical)
in future I'll test the game before and after compression!
Here's the version history so you can see what's changed...
Version 1.0, 17/4/95
First release of the game to the PD library The Datafile
Version 1.5, 17/9/95
Main screen improved
Fonts used when typing commands
Status bar displays score and turns
Sub-commands implemented
Minor spelling mistakes and bugs corrected
HELP command expanded
Version 2.0, 23/1/98
Mode 28 used instead of mode 15
Tracker music added
SOUND command to toggle sound on and off
Spelling mistakes corrected (I've improved in three years!)
Fixed rare inventory bug
Fonts now anti-alias
Font input line now accepts control characters
One letter abbreviations added (GO NORTH may be typed as N)
Pronouns implemented
Version 2.1 15/2/98
Minor bug introduced during compression removed
Errors when saving no longer crash the game

Right all you've got to do is swim around until you find the exit on the far
wall. It's half way up IIRC. You come out under the waste disposal unit
where a mangled Talkie Toaster is hanging. You're also close to the engine
room and the stasis leak.
TTFN, Robert.
Peace, love, anarchy.
I've had a bug report for Kryten version 2.0 which I've tracked down to a
syntax error introduced when the basic source was squashed. This has been
fixed along with another minor bug and so the current version is now 2.1.
Anyone who's downloaded version 2.0 can email me robe...@argonet.co.uk and
I'll email you an updated !RunImage.
I'm about to upload the new version to ArgoFTP and I expect it'll be
available for download soon (ftp moderation permitting).
If you've experienced problems downloading from the website try connecting
to ArgoFTP ftp.argonet.co.uk with a FTP client. ArgoFTP seems to be
rejecting requests for downloads from browsers.
If you've not got Kryten98 yet wait until the website says version 2.1.
Thanks for your patience,
TTFN, Robert.
Tom, can't you stop muttering on about your site? When its ready to open,
tell people if you have to, but in the meantime stop giving a running
commentary, PLEASE.
If you mail box is full of mail, perhaps you could answer by mail.

If you use http://golden.argonet.co.uk/ftp_site/ instead of
ftp.argonet.co.uk you *should* be able to access it with a
browser.
Either that, or the only reason I don't get any emails
saying none of the files can be downloaded from my web site
is that no one ever visits it :-)

Ta for the advice Vince, I had a bit of a false start with that because it's
actually replacing ftp://ftp.argonet.co.uk/pub/ but it's all working now.

I've managed to find my way out of the dogs milk, and have found
both Talkie Toaster, and the Twin. However, I can't work out what to do
next, as the service lift in the Engine room needs a password, which I don't
have.
I found the Cat, but haven't got a clue as to what the 'greater
mind' may be which he mentions...
Oh, and finally, - what use is the skutter? All can get it to do is
rocket off down the corridor!
But it's still a good game (much more fun than A-Level coursework,
but then - what isn't?) :)
