Anyone remember this text based adventure game called Gorm? It was on
a cover disk on Archimedes World or something. Only really stands out
because I remember it being quite funny at the time. Does anyone know
anything about what happened to its developer, or even where to get
hold of a copy?

Funnily enough I still have GORM sitting on my hard disk.

I don't recall seeing it anywhere on the net but try a Google or FTP
search (I'm not sure if it's public domain, etc.)

Cheers,
Rob

Hi, a long shot but do you still have the copy of this game Gorm? This thread seems to be the only thing on the internet that remembers it.

In article <d6b468f4-806d-445f...@googlegroups.com>,
I have a copy here. However, it says it is copyright Achimedes World so
presumably I'm not supposed to copy it to you without permission from
somebody?

The author is Chris Allen, I was in communication with him once about
the game - I remember his shock that anybody had remembered it, he had
written it in college and didn't have a copy of it himself anymore. I
sent him a copy! :-) it was an excellent game, and still in my memory
even now.

For historical interest, here's his correspondence to me (actually he
contacted me, rather than the other way round - I had forgotten that
detail):

Hi mate - about a year ago you posted this thread:
http://www.iconbar.com/forums/viewthread.php?threadid=10008

I realise it was a long time ago, but I just googled and came across
it.
In your list you have the game:

Gorm v1.40 (1994)(Archimedes World)

Well.. I wrote that :) As Arc World distributed it, they officially
held
the copyright, but they are no more. Not sure legally how it stands,
but I
have no objection with you distributing it if you want.
Do you have a copy? Would be fascinating to see what my programming
was
like 14 years ago!

Kind regards

Chris

I replied, telling him I loved Gorm. He responded once again:

===
Hi Jason,

Thats cool - didn't realise anyone really got into the game, glad to
hear
it was fun! All programmed with good old BBC BASIC.. Don't know if you
ever saw the full 2-part solution in Archimedes World that I wrote, I
don't think I have those back issues any more, and the electronic
version
has long since been lost :(

I'm in London now, working as a developer for a web agency, but I long
for
the days I used to be able to work away on little projects and get
them
onto cover disks! Though the pay back then wasn't so good - Arc World
gave
me the not-so-generous sum of £40 for the entire game and complained
that
the game was getting too big - the reason behind the pictures being
simple
black & white I seem to remember!
Making me feel all nostalgic :)

Cheers

Chris

Hello Chris

I don't know if you are still reading thus but if so I have a question. What is the correct way through the maze? I can move South from the flight of stairs through the magic wall then S, E and N through more magic walls where I find a key. Beyond this and mapping the whole maze conventionally I am at a bit of an impasse. I have got as far as obtaining the wand from the bar-maid and giving it to the wizard together with the potion. However the old man and the vicar remain obstinately unresponsive.

Regards

Roger Durrant

I have, true to form managed to escape from the maze after sending my question in. The maze is as tricky as any ever compiled by the Phoenix crowd; the walls are magic and it takes a lot of mapping and dying (annoyingly the policeman recognises you through your disguise and kills you in the maze). In the Police Station he doesn't.
