My copy of StrongED insists upon opening application Help text files at 60
characters width, whereas Help authors insist on writing them formatted to
80 characters.

It only seems to happen with a text file called !Help.

I can't see anything in the StrongEd Choices which seems to be relevant.

Is there a fix for this mildly-annoying behaviour?

Yes. With a help file open, menu over the file > Choices > Wrapping >
Click on "Fixed number of characters", and put in 80. Then OK and Save
at the bottom of the choices window.
