Hello

Does anyone know if David Snell is still active ?
I have a copy of Procad+ and it has developed several faults recently.
I have re installed it from the original CD but the faults are still there.
I have tried his website which seems no longer to exist and emails also
don't reach him.

Thanks Peter Woodbine

Hi Peter,

He was definitely still active at the back end of September when I bought a copy of ProcCAD+ off him. The website is http://www.dsnell.co.uk/CADindex.html.

I'm a keen and regular user. Perhaps others might help with the faults if
David is busy?

It's one of my killer apps - that keeps me using RISC OS daily. ;-)

I use ProCad+ on regular basis but after I updated to RiscOS 5.24 I get error during startup. The workaround is to run ProCad with Aemulor.

Thanks for your replies .
I think I had already found the problem which is that since installing 5.24
it has occured. I had not used ProCad+ for a while and so was unaware of
it. My version of ProCad+ is 1.07 .
The problem was that it crashed after double clicking on a drawing.
When I tried the same file on the RiscOSPi it is OK.

Now that I know Davids new email address I will contact him and upgrade to
the lates version.

Thanks Pete

Then I am at a loss. I have just tried a quick run on my Titanium (Rom Version
5.27, 06-Nov-18) with no problems.

When you say startup do you mean from boot or when you try to run ProCad+ ?

Have you tried running Reporter ?

If it helps you could send me a ProCad+ file and I will check it on my
machine. My email address is good.

Regards Ron.

It fails when I open ProPad files, I can open ProCad but when I try to open a file I get the error and need to close the ProCad. I haven't use the Reporter because my workaround works. There are more apps that did stop working after last update of the RO. For example WinEd v.3.20, it crash evry time I try to create a new window, but it works if I use Aemulor. I will try it with Reporter and post the message file.

This version of WinEd works fine on modern hardware here (iMX6,
IGEPv5 and Titanium) without recourse to Aemulor. There must be
something odd about your system.

Il will look into it, I need toroll back the last update (5.24), the problem started with last update. I can also test it on my Iyonix and RPi with newest version of RiscOS.

My fairly extensive experience with WinEd on the iMX6 is that, although it
seems to work fine, it is likely to produce corrupted template files. I've
had to resort to creating/amending template files on the Iyonix, where
I've never had such problems.

I upgraded to a Pi3B+ with 5.24 with a new SD setup
and so far ProCad+ 1.07
seems to work fine without Aemulor.

A number of quite old Software works under Aemulor, like i.e.

I must apologise for I only tried some ProCad+ files that I had saved as Draw
files.

I have since transferred and tried, from my Iyonix, some ProPad files I get
the same errors :-(.

I will write to David and report the problems.

Hi All,

I've been having similar issues, it would appear to be OS version related, with RO5.24 I get the errors, but if I try on an old Pi with 5.21 it works normally.

I have been in contact with David and he seems to be stumped by it.

There's a chance that it's a zero page (read or write) access violation.
To see if it is, download the 'ZeroPain' module from
https://www.riscosopen.org/viewer/view/apache/RiscOS/Utilities/Autobuild/ABRelease/Resources/Generic/ZeroPain/!Boot/Choices/Boot/PreDesk/!!ZeroPain/ZeroPain%2Cffa

and double click on it. Then run ProCad+ and open the troublesome file, and a log file will be written into the root directory of your harddisc. It's full of mystical hexadecimal numbers but don't worry - it tells the author exactly where the program went wrong.

If there's no log produced, it's some other problem!
Sprow.

It would definitely appear to be a issue with RO5.24 and I have been
running a few test versions of ProCAD+ for David today, and it seems that
David has tracked down the bug and fixed it. Fingers crossed.

A quick test of David's bug fix on my Titanium (v5.27 Dec 18) seems to show
that he has indeed solved it.

No crashes and no ZeroPain reports :-)).
