a problem with sound

I wonder if anyone can help?
A 3.7 RPC that I am wanting to use has no sound at the moment.
I have looked at sound in !Boot and note that there is less
functionality than with this one.
I can select different voices on this one. On the problem one it is
fixed at WaveSynth-Beep and there is no sound when I change to Loud
from Quiet, which there is on here.
Any ideas?

Is sound configured correctly?
Try 16bit sound & oversampling both OFF if no joy try both ON.
A 3.7 RPC may or maynot have 16 bit sound hardware!
other possibilities:
If the computer has been moved or internals accessed Sound card if fitted
dislodged.
or
Sound failing is often one of the first signs of motherbaord damage due to a
leaking battery. If so it is very fiddly to repair and it would be cheaper
to get a another motherboard!

tried first - no change. Don't know how to try second.

It must have, because it has worked before.

I had just moved it from one place where it worked when last used to
another where it didn't work at first switch on.
I have just gone through the battery change bit with this one and
don't think the use I will get out of it will be worth that!!! I want
to run one simple program that needs sound, and not very often at
that!

You might have accidentally unplugged the audio cable, or dislodged the

Later, I tried it again ... no sound again .... ????
When I looked inside there were two things the same as plugged into
the back of the CD drive - could either of them be something to do
with sound? I couldn't see anywhere they should be plugged into. In
fact, I couldn't see anything that might be anything to do with sound
... are there and pictures anywhere that show me what I am looking
for?

speakers plugged in? If it is the former then I would suggest that
sometime in the past a plug has been used and that the little springy
"switch" inside the socket that disconnects the internal speaker when
external headphones/amp speakers are used has now been bent too far so
that it no longer makes proper contact when the plug is removed. When you
fiddled about inside you porbably disturbed it enough for it to make
intermittant contact. You will either need to replace or bypass the socket
or use external amplified speakers. - I've got my old RiscPC connected to
the amp and speakers in the monitor for this very reason.

Probably a poor connection. But tracking it down isn't easy as quite a few
permutations.
If I understand you correctly, you have recently had the battery changed in
this RPC, correct?
If yes had the battery gone furry?
If yes there could be an intermitant fault on the PCB :-(
I believe you have a number of RiscPCs, could you swap this RiscPC for
another one performing a role that doesn't need sound?

configuration you have pictures wouldn't help.
We can help more one to one but we would have to start charging for our
time!

There's normally an audio cable (extra to the power and IDE ones) from the
