Hi,

Has anyone had experience of this behaviour?

I have Iris 1.027 (02-Apr-2023).

FAST Pi Compute Module 4 RISC OS 5.29

Quite often, if I quit Iris it stiff the machine. Doesn't happen every
time. This has started fairly recently but I can't see what has induced
this behaviour

On occasions, while it's on the iconbar and I'm doing something I get an
endless hour glass. Alt/Break gives me a message about closing WebKit
Network process. If I OK that, the machine stiffs so maybe it's that part
of the gubbins which is problematical.

Reporter gives lots of messages re WebKit.

Thank you for pointing at a new version!

Until now I used Iris 1.025 (and previous versions), but I don't recall any
machine stiffing when quitting Iris. I'll let you know if 1.027 appears to
have changed something in this respect.

I did notice however a lot of reports when I had !Report running
coincidently. Perhaps not the same reports, but it certainly isn't
something that is exclusive for the latest version.

Not much of a help, sorry.

Very, very rare now I have any lockups 1.027 is the most stable version I
have used.

First question: Do you have Alignment Exceptions On or Off. Iris works
best with them off. If 'on' some odd things can happen and they do warn of
this in the text files with Iris.

This could also be an interaction with the Compute Module 4, I doubt Iris
has been tested with that in the hardware mix.

Have you tried a fresh install of Iris?

If you can list a repeatable instance of the issue, i.e what other
software was running, website visited where you had the issue, etc..

Then best to report it to RISCOSBits in case its the Compute Module cauing
the issue and then maybe to RISCOS Developments.

I only discovered it by accident. Wondering whether the problem was a
corrupted Iris, I went to fetch a clean copy and found the update. I
don't remember it being advertised anywhere.

I'd been using IrisRAM and wondered if that was the problem but I've
stopped using that and the glitch persists. This FAST is so swift I don't
really need the RAM disc now.

When I shut down, I'm trialing one by one closing things on the iconbar
before shutting Iris to see if anything is conflicting. Bit of a long
job. I recently set !Transient to trap all deletes so that is my next
suspect to eliminate.

That's nice to know.

Off.

It was OK for a while with this new computer, then it went pear shaped.

> Have you tried a fresh install of Iris?

Yes. See my post replying to Paul.

See same post.

I'll do that when I've eliminated as far as possible anything I might be
doing wrong.

It's a bit hard to get messags to the Iris developers it seems.
