I've long lost my Pipedream license and don't know if I can
legally copy my prsent copy into my Virtual Acorn as well. Does
anyone know if a Pipedream license would have allowed it's use on
two machines? Or if anyone still "owns" the basic rights?
I also can't any longer put my hands on the original Pipedream
floppies (there would have been an earlier version and the 4.5
upgrade - they may still be found) so just to see what happened,
I did copy my present Pipedream into VA, taking !Pipedream from
my RiscPC Apps directory and dropping it into VA's Apps directory.
It did basically work - but every time I started VA, Pipedream
demanded "load HardDisc4". Cancelling and/or OK-ing this a
couple of times suppressed it and Pipedream loaded anyway - and
seemed to work fine. I could live with this though I guess it
would be avoided if I could install !Pipedream directly rather
than copying an installed version - does anyone know if copies
can still be purchased?

Ha! One mistake masks another. Strangely, my reply hasn't
been downloaded here. It usually downloads during the

I'm told it's best done with kindness, although there's a school of thought
that you should use a whip and a chair :-)

Clearly. It's "St Trinian's".

It's truly amazing how useful Google can be. Of course, lots of other
people also spell it the wrong way, so caution is useful. But some sources
- IMDB, movie posters etc are more trustworthy than others.
The Pipedream licence comes from a genler, friendlier age and is
actually far more sensible for those of us who use laptops in the
way I described: it was within the terms of the license to load
it into VA so I'll try it again.
It's not yet clear why it throws up the initial error message -
I'll work on that and if I find a solution I'll try to remember
to post it.

I don't have Pipedream but I'd guess the path to the previous disc must
be saved in a configuration file.

There is a path somewhere starting ADFS:... which needs to be turned
into HostFS:...
When I transferred my copy there was no problem, but then I have a site
license version from a site that had 100 machines and now has none!

You have to watch them with a beady eye.

8-)
I feel very old, because when I was a student visiting Moscow exactly
50 years ago, the abacus was the standard calculating machine used in
all the shops, and it could be used at great speed (if they actually
had any products to sell).
I installed the multi-purpose PipeDream on my VRPC without any
problem. I can't recall whether I did so from the original floppy, so
I just experimented to check.
I keep PD on the Kinetic in a directory I call Office, and I've just
copied over the whole of the PipeDream directory via ShareFS to the
SA-VRPC. It took seconds and started without a problem, accessing
files too. The template files live inside the !PipeDream application.
I've found PD the most useful computing application of all, as a
general workhorse. It took time to master it (and it has many
potential uses I don't need or understand) but is priceless.

I once tried to buy a newtowking version with a site license...
Nothing could be supplied, other than the standard program.

Yes: we use PD extensively for running our business, 4QD.
Some while ago I bought an Iyo to se if upgrading from RPCs was sensible.
It wasn't - PipeDream runs far, far too slowly under emulation to be
useful for what we need.

It would be interesting if Pipedream4 would work with the A9 and
perhaps the Beagle board.
