In !Compo.!Run change 'Set Compo$MemoryManager Auto' to 'Set
Compo$MemoryManager Dynamic'.

Thanks Ian. The !run file recommends against this however and I
thought the wimpslot could be unlimited on RO5 yet when I try to
reserve more than 28MB I can't?
Andrew

You probably have Aemulor running in that case: it limits the Wimpslot to
allow 26-bit code to run.

Get rid of Aemulor out of your boot sequence and only run it when
needed. Otherwise it permanently criples the memory system of RISC OS
5, restricting it to the old 26bit limits.

On my version 1.23b.45 the Run file has this in the comments about the
use of the 'Dynamic' setting:
(always use dynamic areas - not a good idea on RO 5)
But it may be that other versions work differently.
I have always had it set ot 'Auto' on my Iyonix but I do not have the
time for several days now to do any checks on Compo.

Unless you need PCA.

They will be the same.

If you don't require the PCA functions then 'Auto' should be used.

Yes it was running. Now I get an internal error every time a PCA tool
is clicked on. Do you know if they work in RO5?
Andrew

Run !Compo first so that 32bit modules are loaded. The !SPaint PCA tool
appears to work in conjunction with !Compo.
For some reason I can't find Aemulaor despite it being loaded as part
of the Boot sequence - any idea where it gets put during installation,
I've forgotten? All I can find is something in Boot.Choices (a
configuration data file).

Look at the list !Configure Boot Run. Alternatively use the Filer's
Find to search for !Aemulor anywhere on your disc.

I used Find and !Locate but they turned up nothing apart from the
latter in Boot.Configure.

That's found it although having taken it out of pre-desk. I still get
the internal errors with PCA tools. I'm using v1.23c34, which version
are you using?

Version 1.23c39 - http://compo.iconbar.com/compo/update.htm

!PCAPaint has nine tools, one of which is !Painting. Try :-
http://compo.iconbar.com/pcapaint.htm
They all seem to work, as does !SPaint.
Thanks for the link. Those tools all seem to have a different date
stamp to mind (2003 vs. 1999) so it'll be worth trying to see if the
ones i have just don't work on RO5.

I have never heard of !Spaint PCA tool, I've tried searching for it using
!Searchy and !RiscSearch no joy! - Ian can you give a pointer please!

!PCAPaint is much later and more flexible. !SPaint was an early PCA
example.

Thank you both for this, (trust Google!) obtained and installed out of
interest....
