R-Comp Interactive are pleased to announce the immediate availablity of
Heroes of Might and Magic 2, on of 1997's best strategy/RPG games. Still
regarded as the best fantasy/strategy game of all time (on a par with
Civilisation 2 as best overall strategy game ever!), HoMM2 is by far the
most significant release from RCI so far (even more so than Quake). Why?
Because HoMM2 is still the current top dog in it's field, with HoMM3 not
due for release until next year.

HoMM2 includes stunning hand-painted artwork like you've never seen in
computer games before. Backed up by over 40 CD audio music tracks and
100s of hours of gameplay.

Best described as a cross between Civilisation, WarCraft 2 and an RPG,
HoMM2 will appeal to everyone who has even the vaguest interest in
strategy games, roleplaying games or adventures!

Featuring up to 6 player multiplayer on the same machine, HoMM2 avoids
the usual problems of complex rules, and is instantly playable without
even needing to refer to the (supplied!) manual or reference card!

Anyway, I'll hand you over to the game's original authors (New World
Computing) for a full description....

Game Description
================

Having crushed his enemies, consolidated his power base and eliminated
dissent at the end of Heroes of Might and Magic, Lord Ironfist settled
down to rule the land of Enroth. After 25 years of peace, the land is again
thrust into turmoil. Lord Ironfist is dead and the ensuing struggle for power
between his sons, Archibald and Roland, has led to a state of civil war.
Players must choose sides and gather their armies as they use all of their
strategic wit and tactics to join in the battle for domination of the lands.

Features
========

Heroes of Might and Magic, a multiple award winning game, pushed
the envelope for strategy games with beautiful hand drawn graphics. In Heroes
of Might and Magic II all graphics have been upgraded and expanded. The
computer has been given a new AI full of improvements.
Heroes II now boasts an adaptable interface, changing its look and
feel depending on whether you play a good or evil character. Playing the good
side will give the player more access to healing and protection oriented spells
and monsters, while playing the evil side will give access to destructive spells
and foul monsters.

An unusually interactive campaign storyline combined with thousands of
man-hours worth of cut sequences creates a unique atmosphere that
draws the player into a fantasy world rife with noble deeds and base betrayals.
Players can now play up to 6 people all on the same machine!

In addition, two new character classes (Necromancers and Wizards), and new
terrain types have been added, while the heroes' skills have been expanded to
encompass everything from combat to movement and diplomacy. This adds an
enhanced RPG element to the game, allowing players to continue playing certain
heroes and advance their abilities through multiple scenarios.

A diverse range of features have been implemented, including approximately
40 campaign scenarios with unique 3D rendered scenes for each. Let's not
forget the horde of monsters, spells, events and artifacts that made Heroes
of Might and Magic so memorable. Heroes II now has over 50 types of
monsters, 60 spells and 70 artifact types.

Acorn Features
==============

In addition to the features which made PC HoMM2 the multi-award winning
product that it was, the Acorn version features:

640x480 graphics throughout

Complete desktop front end for loading and starting games - double
click on a map to start playing it, with all info shown in RiscOS
windows. Set up multiplayer games through a desktop interface!

Configurable Disc Cache can virtually eliminate the disc thrashing
which characterised the PC version. Taking advantage of any extra
memory in the machine, the Cache dramtically speeds up play, and
reduces load times

Enhanced AI, with many optimisations for faster play!

Includes Desecrated Lands (unofficial) add-on CD with over 100 extra
levels!

Requirements
============

Acorn Heroes of Might and Magic 2 requires a RiscPC or A7000 with 8 Mb
of Ram or more. The game will take advantage of any extra RAM available,
and VRAM is a bonus, too.

You'll need 70Mb of disc space (but every Kb is worth it!)

And a CD drive, too.

Pricing
=======

The Acorn version of Heroes of Might and Magic 2 costs 35ukp and comes
on 2 CDs (Original HoMM2 plus the Desecrated Lands disc) and 2 Acorn
floppies. It is supplied in the deluxe American edition packaging,
(the UK packaging was your typical UK cop-out!) with extended manual
and laminated reference card.
