R-Comp is pleased to announce the release of "ClockSave", a set of
programs to help ensure that your RISC OS computer always has a sensible
date/time.

In the modern world of SSL certificates and internet synchronisation, it
is more important than ever that your computer has a time that makes
sense, but many single-board computers lack a realtime clock. RISC OS
provides the NetTime module which can synchronise time with the internet,
but this requires not only an internet connection, but also a vaguely
agreeable time to begin with.

The ClockSave suite of programs is designed to save and restore valid
times during shutdown/startup, and sanity check the results to ensure that
the computer starts with a sensible time. A third component can
(optionally) monitor things during the session, periodically recording the
time in case of crash or unexpected reboot (eg. ctrl-break), and also
reset/nudge NetTime to encourage accurate sync-ing.

Note that ClockSave doesn't set out to magically divine the exact time
(though it will try to do that via NetTime). Instead, its goal is to
ensure that your clock is kept sensible, to ensure that time-based
operations work as expected (eg. SSL certificates, websites, backups,
email, NetTime itself).

The suite is provided with simple installation/uninstall routines, and
includes a Readme documenting the various features/functions.

ClockSave will be available as a standalone product on !Store for 5ukp.
It will also be provided free of charge as part of PiTools, and to users
of our computers (where applicable). If you're intending to use it on a
DIY or other computer, and don't want to buy PiTools, we ask that you grab
a copy on !Store.

ClockSave is available now on !Store, or via the users' download sites for
most R-Comp computers/support schemes from BeagleBoard onwards.

Best wishes,

Andrew
