The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) will be:
MicroDigital's Omega computer
demonstrated by Bryan Hogan
Monday 21st February 2005, 7:45pm
(informal discussions from about 6pm onwards)
The Blue-Eyed Maid (upstairs)
173 Borough High Street
London SE1 1HR
The Omega is probably one of the most talked about RISC OS computers of
all time, offering significant advantages over the StrongARM Risc PC, and
with further features still under development.
Numerous attempts to arrange demonstrations of the Omega in central London
failed for a variety of reasons, but we are now very pleased to present a
demonstration of an Omega by Bryan Hogan. Bryan will be showing off the
Omega's speed and application compatibility, as well as explaining the
applications for which it meets his needs better than the alternatives.
In addition, in Bryan's own words, "Knowing how cynical some people are,
I'm planning to prove the network card works by linking it up to my A4."
There may also be a StrongARM Risc PC at the meeting for speed comparisons.
Also hoping to be at the meeting is Stewart Brookes, who has been the star
speaker at two of our recent presentations, as well as the only other
Omega user we've ever found in the London area. Stewart has owned an
Omega for quite some time, and should be able to assist in answering any
questions you may have about the machine, as well as talking about his own
requirements that made the Omega the best choice for him.
The talk will benefit from video projection, so everyone should have a
great view. As is now our standard practice for speaker meetings, it will
take place in a separate room from the rest of the pub. A wide range of
hot and cold food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, will be on sale.
The venue is between London Bridge and Borough tube stations, so readily
accessible by public transport. It is *within* London's Congestion
Charging zone, however congestion charging ends at 6:30pm (and our meeting
starts much later). The venue also benefits from ample cycle parking
(covered by CCTV) very close by.
Don't miss this unique event! ROUGOL was described by Paul Beverley as
"the most civilised user group I have yet visited", so you are assured of
a warm welcome.
ROUGOL announcements by email
=============================
ROUGOL does not, or cannot, normally deliver email announcements to people
who either:
(1) have exceeded their mailbox quota at their ISP
(2) use anti-spam services where mail from ROUGOL is blocked and we have
to "click on a link" to enable delivery
(3) change email addresses and don't tell us.
If you think you should be receiving email announcements from ROUGOL,
please fix these problems first, and then let us know.
Future ROUGOL meetings
======================
ROUGOL will continue to meet on the third Monday evening of each month
at the same venue.
Events will include:
February - Omega demonstration by Bryan Hogan
March - TBC
April - David McEwen presenting Cineroma and other developments
May - Ovation Pro demonstration and tutorial by Bernard Boase
If you need any help reaching the venue, or any other information, please
