Iyonix fixes in Cheshire (North-West England)
=============================================

Following numerous requests from IYONIX pc users in Northern England,
John Ballance of Castle Technology has kindly agreed to visit the RISC
OS North West User Group (RONWUG) this Monday, 16th February, in order
to carry out Iyonix fixes. (And, of course, talk about the IYONIX pc
very briefly if necessary!)

7pm for 7:30pm, Monday 16th February 2004

Trafford Metrovick Rugby & Cricket Club
Finnybank Road
Sale
Cheshire
M33 6LR

(Please note this does *not* replace the normal scheduled monthly RONWUG
meeting, which will take place at the same venue on Wednesday 18th
February).

Our understanding is that "The Fix" will involve two modifications if
necessary, one being a jumper allowing optional deactivation of a
specific resistor, and the other being a firmware upgrade to the glue
logic PAL (originally announced last autumn, and I believe implemented
on some machines by John last time he visited RONWUG).

Note that John has already made clear that "all these mods can improve
'stability' but are not regarded as necessary if you are not
experiencing problems" (as, it seems, most Iyonix users, including
myself, are not).

Because each Iyonix to be fixed can take (very roughly) anywhere between
15 and 35 minutes, do expect there to be a queue! However, there will be
plenty of RISC OS people to talk to about all manner of things, some
sample RISC OS publications to look at, plenty of mains power and one or
two monitors (please bring your own monitor and accessories if it's easy
to do so), and of course there will be the ongoing disassembling, fixing
and re-assembling to watch if you're interested.

John may also have time to answer some Iyonix questions before, during
or even after the fixes.

If you require the fix for your Iyonix but can't make this date, there
have been offers on the Iyonix Support smartgroup by users from south
Cheshire and Rugby, to carry out the modification (without fee but at
your own risk) to anyone who can bring their Iyonix to those locations.
See the smartgroup for more details (including many other options if
required, including the free fix via Castle in Suffolk).

The RONWUG venue is just a few hundred yards from M60 J7, with plentiful
free parking right outside, and easy ground floor access. It is on the
bus route from Manchester city centre, and is also about fifteen to
twenty minutes walk from Dane Road Metro station. A map can be found by
following the URL at the end of this message; contact us as below if you
need more details, or indeed any sort of assistance in reaching this
event.

Tea and coffee (and possibly biscuits) should be available at the venue,
and fast food shops and an off license are nearby. You don't need to be
a RONWUG member (or even an Iyonix owner) to come along.

But if you do wish to be kept informed about RONWUG events, please do
let us have your email address and/or other contact details; we'd be
delighted to add you to our mailing list, which is normally limited to
one or two emails per month, and we won't give out your details to other
individuals or organisations.

For details or advice regarding the fixes, and about the Iyonix in
general, please see the Iyonix Support smartgroup. If you have problems
subscribing, we're happy to help.

If you would like other work to be done on your Iyonix at the same time
as this event, please contact Castle first. (We can, of course, help
out where necessary!)

Future RONWUG meetings

Ordinary RONWUG meetings continue at the same venue on the third
Wednesday evening of each month, so that means:

Wednesday 18th February
Wednesday 17th March
Wednesday 21st April
