R-Comp Interactive would like to introduce you to our new family member,
the SideKick (also known rather more plainly as a UniBox).

This is a tiny fanless (ie. silent) system with wired/wifi networking and
multiple USB3 ports. Let's be plain - it has an Intel rather than our
much-loved ARM CPU, but its purpose is to function as a companion to your
primary ARM-based RISC OS systems, doing the things that are difficult,
slow or almost impossible without.

The tiny system (13.1 x 8.1 x 1.83cm) can be mounted on the back of your
monitor, or used separately on your desk, or under a pile of papers if
your desk is anything like ours! It's smaller than a paperback book,
about the size of a smartphone. It can also sit comfortably on top of
many of the small RISC OS machines now available.

Being network-connected, you don't need a monitor/keyboard/mouse (ie.
"headless"). But you may wish to connect them if you want to do more with
your SideKick. If running headless, you can have full control from your
RISC OS desktop, and see the machine in a window on your desktop. If
running on wifi, the only connection you really need is power!

The primary purpose is to run UniPrint and similar services (eg. network
shared drives) - and that's included in the price. That means that your
SideKick will unlock more-or-less any printer for RISC OS use, without the
footprint of a normal PC or laptop.

Of course, you can also use it for web browsing or handling documents or
videos that are a problem on your RISC OS machine. A bit like a PC card
in your old RiscPC really, and UniServer facilitates that (again, this is
included). You can also run other bits of hardware like slide scanners,
mobile phone-connectivity, webcams and so on.

Basically, your SideKick will bridge the gap between your RISC OS system
and the rest of the world, opening up your options all round.

And the nice part? We've tried to keep the price as low as possible.
Starting at just 250ukp inc VAT. That's almost half the price of our
SpaceCube systems, which offer similar functions in a larger, more
traditional computer form factor. There may even be a show special price!

With your SideKick in tow, which challenge do you feel like tackling next?

Best wishes,

Andrew
