Defect Report Processing
-------------------------
The group picked up on the latest batch of defect reports,
which are available at the following URL:
http://www.opengroup.org/austin/aardvark/latest/

XBD ERN 7 , BRE nested subpatterns (XBD BRE defn vs regcomp()) OPEN
Investigations during the last week had shown that differing behavior
occurs across implementations of sed.
The BSD derived systems appear to give <a|>. Other systems
give <a|b>.

It was decided to leave the topic open for another week.
Nick took an action (now completed) to produce a small program using regcomp().

XBD ERN 9 option constants Accept as Marked below

This ERN was re-opened after some discussion on the mailing list
since the last meeting.

The intent of the current wording regarding options was that
implementations should not need to change anything to show that they do
not support a new feature [added to this standard (note not possible)
or a companion standard that builds upon this standard] -- this was a
reaction against the rolling amendments in previous times.
It was envisaged that applications could using a runtime call (at least
on UNIX systems) to getconf in a Makefile build optional code, and/or
possibly use dlopen() at runtime to link in objects built using the option.

There was agreement that this is a perhaps a bit convoluted and that
we should forward concerns to the sponsor about the current wording for
option constants. This should be forwarded down the interpretations track,
with the recommendation that the standard is unclear in this area, and
that a future direction should define the case when symbolic constants
are undefined to be the same as when the symbolic constants set to -1.

XBD ERN 10 wording in XBD Character Set Accept as marked below

In XBD Section 6.4
Change from:
shall be of the same type, and interpreted in byte order from first
to last with the least significant byte of the multi-byte character
specified by the last constant.

To:
shall be of the same type, and interpreted in sequence from first to
last with the first byte of the multibyte character specified by the
first byte in the sequence.

Next Steps
-----------
Andrew will update the aardvark reports with the latest inbound
defect reports.

There are a number of open action items outstanding:
1. Don Cragun Pathname Resolution proposal
2. Larry Dwyer system() and threads
3. Joerg Schilling wording for XCU ERN 1 pax
4. Further investigation for XCU ERN 18.

The next teleconference call is scheduled for May 27 2004
