I hope someone can help me. I am having trouble installing ViaVoice 4.1
under Windows 95 (Win95 service pak 2 installed). Once I start setup.exe,
the Microphone Setup Wizard loads. I can successfully configure the
microphone, and I get the "microphone setup complete" message. After this
message, I get an error that says "SMAPI RC = 215". I click OK and get
another popup window error. This one says "SMAPI RC = -4". I click OK,
and get this same error three more times. After I click OK after the
fourth error, I get a message "A general error has occured. Close
Microphone setup wizard." I click OK and then I get the setup complete
window.

Hopeing for the best, I went ahead and ran a complete enrollment and
trained it. No problems. But when I try to run SpeakPad, I get an error
"SmConnect RC=30". If I try to run the Mircophone setup again, I get an
error "SMAPI RC = 215" error again, followed by the "SMAPI RC = -4"
errors.

I checked the error.log file and it says I have bad data in the file
e:\viavoice\vocabs\langs\en_us\tasks\cstartus\ss597.lmc. I have removed
and reinstalled ViaVoice several times and always encounter the same
problems, even if I delete the above file.

Here is my system configuration:
Pentium 233MMX, 64MB RAM, ESS 1868 sound card.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

there are references to these identical error msgs on the FAQ page on
the IBM site. However, they speak to NT installation, not Windows 95.
The errors cited have to do with running IBM AntiVirus versions older
than 3.0. Workaround suggested is to disable "check files when accessed"
in the AntiVirus System Shield setup. Here is the URL for the FAQ;
search for "SMAPI."

Please let me know if this helps to resolve your problem. Susan
