REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
remove comp.sources.reviewed

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup comp.sources.reviewed.

RATIONALE: Remove comp.sources.reviewed

The last approved message was in October 1994.

There are other more suitable means of distributing program sources, so
this comp.sources.reviewed is not a suitable candidate for conversion to
an unmoderated newsgroup.

HISTORY:

The newsgroup comp.sources.reviewed was created in April 1991, with the
first approved message in May 1991. The charter (from the CFV) was:

"Comp.sources.reviewed" is a moderated newsgroup for the distribution
of program sources that have been subjected to a Peer Review process.
Similar to the process used for academic journals, submissions
are sent to a moderator who then sends the sources to Peer Review
volunteers for evaluation. The Reviewers are asked to provided a
timely evaluation of the software by compiling and running it on
their machine. If time does not permit them to complete a review,
they are responsible for asking the moderator to select another
reviewer. If the Moderator and Peer Reviewers judge a submission
to be acceptable, the sources will be posted along with the written
comments provided by the Reviewers. If a submission is not found to
be acceptable, the submitter will be provided with the Reviewers'
comments, and they will have the option of addressing those comments
and submitting the sources again.

PROCEDURE:

The full (draft) group removal procedure is documented here:

http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup

Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should
subscribe to news.groups and participate in the relevant threads in that
newsgroup.

To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups.

All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.

If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion
may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that
all discussion appears in news.groups as well.

DISTRIBUTION:

This RFD has been posted to the following newsgroups:

news.announce.newgroups

comp.sources.d
